How old/how big was your little one when you transitioned to the longest rise (completely unsnapped)? My guy is 15 months, almost 33 in and weighs about 25 pounds. We are having some occasional leaking issues and I'm trying to narrow down the cause. We use BG 4.0s with hemp inserts. I'm trying to decide if maybe the hemp isn't absorbing quickly enough or if it's time to switch the rise settings. TIA!

We actually never fully unsnapped with DD, but she was only 26 lbs, 35" when she potty trained. We used a combo of 1 microfiber and 1 hemp for a while when she was peeing a ton so it may help to combine insert types - hemp doesn't absorb as quickly as microfiber so we put the hemp below the microfiber.

I unsnapped them a couple months ago. DD is 15 months, 23 or so pounds, and 30 inches tall. Her legs are chubby and the diaper looked like it was cutting into her thighs.

Ours are already unsnapped at 8 months! DD has chunky baby thighs.

I started using them unsnapped around 22-25 pounds but for us that was 9 months old (!). We started getting leaking around 15 months using the micro fiber inserts and we now stuff them with the full insert and the infant insert with the infant one in the front part of the diaper. I think DS was peeing too much too fast for the single insert.
We are now almost 2 years old and 35 pounds and really they are too small but I am holding out... Not sure what else to do. Sometimes big poops come over the top in three back. But most of the time he tells us when he poops so we catch it before there's a mess.

Ours were leaking because the leg elastics were too loose. I replaced them before LO3. If the legs are too tight or if the front and back is too short it's time to go up a rise but there shouldn't be a gap around the legs. Measure the leg elastics too. I think it's supposed to be around 4.5 inches. They are easy to replace. I think sometimes you can get compression leaks from onsies or jumper/exersaucer type things.

My long and lean kiddo is still on the middle rise for her bumgenius. She's 17 months, 21 lbs, and 33 inches. How are your elastics doing? We unfortunately have had to replace some of our bumgenius elastics long before I expected we would need to.

She's almost 2 and we are not there yet- just give it a try for a day. We did and had lots of leaks. She's almost 30 lbs and tall for her age.

Wow, I did not expect all these answers!! We went to the lowest rise / all the way unsnapped around 7 months, when he was 28 in and 20lbs. Online it says that setting is for babies 23-35 lbs. I just felt / feel like they fit better that way. Maybe I jumped the gun though.

@peachykeen: i was thinking about adding a microfiber insert back in but trying the longer rise seemed easier Haha. I'll try that next if this doesn't seem to do the trick. Thanks!

I would try adding something faster absorbing to deal with the leaks. I only used hemp to add to overnight diapers. We ditched the microfiber inserts around 12 mo due to giant toddler pees and they were just worn out and would have compression leaks. We went to using bamboo inserts and added hemp for nighttime. I feel like when they get older they tend to hold their pee and when they go it's a flood!

@peaches1038: Yup, I replaced them myself. It's super easy! I've replaced elastic on a variety of brands, and on most bumgenius styles, and the 4.0s are by far the easiest. And there are lots of tutorials available.

My LO is 21-22 lbs and 1 year. He's all torso. I just unsnapped it. I find I need 1 GMD prefold and 1 hemp insert for his mega pees. He's not a heavy wetter, but there's normally two pees a day that are Flood like. I also replaced all of our elastics, but I bought used.

For us, leaks were a sign that we needed to strip the diapers or change the rise and/or waist snaps.
At 2, LO stopped wearing diapers, and we were using the diapers on the biggest (no snap) rise. She was about 60% on the growth chart - pretty normal.

22 months and still on the middle rise. She's 23 lbs.

@littlejoy: oh I hope he's out of diapers by 2! Nice! I haven't stripped in a while. Maybe I'll try that if the rise adjustments don't fix the leaks.

@peaches1038: She was day trained at 2, but wore a pull-up at night until 2.25 (because SO MUCH PEE!!). Once we realized the pullups were dry in the morning, we switched back to cloth for about a month, then undies.
I always forgot about stripping because I never noticed a huge difference, but it did help a bit when leaks were frequent.

@peaches1038: We started really early, so it really took forever, hahaha. I had no expectations beyond possibly having less poopy diapers to rinse. Nothing like accidentally spraying poop water into my face when rinsing the cloth diapers.

@peaches1038: We just did that. We did do a bit of "elimination communication", but really just focused on the part where you follow the parts about putting them on the toilet every 45 minutes (when possible), right after waking, and 20 min after eating. Some days this meant that she never sat on the toilet, others we were good about it. She also didn't mind ... if she protested, I probably wouldn't have pushed it at all. I can spot the "I have to poop" look from a mile away, so it was pretty easy to get her to the toilet for poops. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
