When I give birth in 2 months, E will be 18mo. I'm doing everything I can to have a vbac but I know it's not a guarantee. I'm starting to worry about surviving if I end up with a RCS. how am I supposed to lift E out of his crib?! Or into his car seat? It doesn't seem possible. All family lives across the country and I'm sure some will come for a few days but I will mostly be on my own.
Anyone have to deal with this? Did you just have to not abide by the c section restrictions?

I am having a RCS in 3 months and LO1 will be 22 months. I am super worried about this too but st least I will have mil to help. He is 18mo now and I think he could help with getting out of his crib but I won't be able to drive for a few weeks anyway so I'm not worrying about carseat at the moment.
Have you got recovery shorts or a belly band of some kind to help hold everything together when you have to do physical tasks? Might help? -
Not personally, but my sister had 2 under 2. She had a lot of help from family (and her husband), but she also started working with her son prior about becoming more independent. She particularly worked on him climbing into the car himself since getting him in (he was still rear facing) required a lot of twisting that she knew would be painful. I think for the crib she would often bring a chair in and have him stand on that, hike a leg over, and help him settle. She actually considered transitioning him early to a bed, though, because she's a SAHM and knew nap time etc would be difficult. Ultimately she broke a lot of the rules and ended up lucky that her c-section incision didn't have any troubles (my SIL on the other hand busted her incision open when lifting her older child).
ETA: Both of us had a 2 week driving restriction with our c-sections so driving was a big concern since her son was in MDO.

I've had friends who get their LO to climb up on a stool or chair and they just help them over the crib. I had 6 week driving restriction last time so I wouldn't be going anywhere. You could always look in to hiring a mothers helper or nanny for a few weeks to help you out with LO1.

My youngest two are 12 months apart. In anticipation of my RCS I taught my middle to climb up to anywhere she needed to be. The only problem was getting her into and out of her crib. I was able to avoid that for the first couple weeks with some family help, but after that I was on my own. It wasn't too bad.
Take it as easy as you can but don't worry too much. -
Crib: does it convert to a toddler bed?? Ours did. So I put the toddler rail on one side and put that side against the wall. I could easily slide the crib out, ds would hop in, and I would slide it back. Life saving idea courtesy of my mom!
I also taught him to climb in and out of the car by himself.

I don't know if I will need a csection but I've been working on getting my lo to be a little more independent with climbing in and out of the tub, the car, etc. The crib and changing table we are still working on.

@psw27: it worked super well recently too when we flipped it around to a regular toddler bed. He is used to it and doesn't try to get out.

@LBee: I'm a SAHM too so naps are what I'm thinking about. We are also working on independence. I feel like I'm going to be so tempted to break all the rules and end up like your SIL with my insition opening. That sounds so painful! Did that set hey recovery back a lot?
@Banana330: I forgot about the 6 week driving restriction! I think that's what I had too last time. I really hope it's not as bad this time around if I do have a RCS
@oliviaoblivia: I need to start teaching E some moves! We've been working on the stairs leading up to our second story walk-up apartment. He's been pretty good about those so far.
@Mrs. Champagne: this is a great idea! It does have a convertible side. I don't think he will be ready for a full on switch so I like this compromise a lot.

@justjules: I put his potty step stool right against the edge of the tub and then help him swing his leg over and step onto it. It's a work in progress because he's wet and slippery so it scares me. But it's saving my 32 week pregnant belly from hoisting him!

You should see how he does with the crib converted without turning it around first. We converted DS' at 20m and he would climb in himself but never out. I think because he was so young he just treated it like crib. I think it's pretty common when you do the transition early.
For us, my "toddler" was 2,9 when I had my RCS, so a bit older than yours. But I stopped picking him up early in pregnancy and we worked on making him more independent. Even just having him climb in the car seat was a huge help.

Not a cs, but I believe I have a lumbar disc injury & have suddenly been nearly incapacitated, it feels like. I've had LO crawl up onto my lap in order to lift her when I have to, but getting her into bed for 1 nap was very challenging & the second I just slowly got down onto the floor & nursed her & napped with her on the floor. We do already have the toddler rail, so maybe that would give more options to put it on now!
