Did they paint the frames too? We just painted ours but used gold paint and a good process. I'm very happy with it.

I was just gonna say what @looch: said. As long as you don't want to change the layout of the kitchen, I would just reface. We refaced ours a couple years ago now, and you absolutely can't tell they're not all new cabinets.

@mediagirl: You could probably repaint them and do a better job for a lot less than $5500. I did mine with SW cabinet paint and they are holding up (the frames, I'm working on the doors). I've also heard good things about BM Advance paint.

We refaced ours, and I love it. Our kitchen was hideous but with the refaced cabinets, a new counter and a backsplash now I think it's beautiful.

We just bought our first home and painted the cabinets in the kitchen (the kitchen was super dark bc of the colors they picked, but we didn't want to remodel it). It turned out really nice, but it was a lot of work. We were working from the basic oak strain and had to clean really well, sand, prime twice, and paint. I'll try to post a before and after picture (excuse our construction mess). We talked extensively with the guy at Sherwin Williams and he was so helpful! Made sure we got the right paint and did everything correctly so that they'll stay nice for years.

@Bernieboo: that doesn't even look like the same kitchen! Gorgeous.
