I know there have been a ton of threads started over this topic but I have specific ideas/questions.
We really really love our son's preschool teachers, and he specifically is very attached to one of them. I want to show them how much we appreciate them and their hard work!
We are also going to include a handwritten card.
What do you think teachers would prefer?

I would personally prefer a gift card. But the other things are just not my style, I don't wear jewelry except my ring and we have plenty of ornaments.

I really want to find a special gift, but in the end we're just going with a gift card because we don't know them well enough to know what they'd like!

@Bao: That's what I'm worried about, I don't really know their style either, although I do think you can never have enough ornaments! 
@mediagirl: That is a great idea, the ornament with shipping is about half of our teacher budget, so I could include a gift card for the remaining amount!

My mom is a teacher, and every year is inundated with a variety of very sweet, tight full little gifts. She never knows what to Do with it all.
I think the most thoughtful thing is a very genuine note. Maybe have your LO help make the card? And then do a gift card.
Our daycare teacher (in home) is basically one of the five most important adults in my kids life. We do a thoughtful card, an extra weeks pay, and some chocolates, usually. When my daughter is done there I think we will give her a plant or tree for her yard (like a lilac bush).
