persimmon / 1380 posts
@crazydoglady: @ALV91711: my almost 2 yo wants nothing to do with any of his new toys. Will only play with his old toys and his older brother’s new scooter.

DS 4.5
Hits: Superwings toys, book, shirt
Misses: A water wow book with a broken pen. :(. Also not enthusiastic about the roller skates her asked for.
DD 6.5
Hits: Ice cream maker, teddy bear that she gave away as part of Marie Kondo sweep about 6 months ago
Misses: Nothing so far but she didn't seem to appreciate the fingernail brush and scalp scrubber Santa got her (because mommy shampoos her head to hard). She pointed out that the Easter Bunny gave her a loofa poof so maybe she'll get the hint to shower more.

@winter_wonder: HIT!!

I knew my DS (4) would love it. He played with it for almost 3 hours today! I’m so nice - I let the grandparents get the winner gift 🥰🥰
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@wrkbrk: oooh my son would love that.
Hits: more rescuebots, superwings, Lego firetruck set, pretend tools & real toolbox
Misses: all books haha (to be real, he likes them, just not as excited to open)
grapefruit / 4492 posts
Son 3.5 loved his kinetic sand kit and Cars 3 I Spy book.
Misses: the stuffie hammock for his room (it was admittedly the "need" item from want, need, wear, read)
apricot / 334 posts
DS 6 - biggest hit was also the cheapest gift - Jenga! Brought so much joy playing with the grandparents
persimmon / 1121 posts
DD - Biggest hit was of course the bike she’s been asking for, but next best was some clothes for her doll. She literally squealed when she opened it, it was so cute.
The only real miss was some cloud clay that she was not interested in, but I kinda bought it for me to play with so that’s fine.

I’m so shocked by the biggest hit gift across all age groups - 1.5, 3.5 and 9. It was this cheap little mini flying ufo drone thing my mil got from Costco. I then found one on amazon and had it one day delivered for my niece. We were outside in the street playing with it so many times today. I’ll be gifting it to every kid I know this upcoming year.

@agold: My ILs gifted this to DD. DS1 (18 months) is terrified of it and DD is pretty leary too! I got a hoot out of seeing them runaway from something so little! I loved playing with it

Hits:
DD (4): Blue light filtering glasses
DS1 (18 months): Mega block dump truck
DS2: (7 weeks): MAM pacifiers
Misses:
DD: Only seemed to not like that DS1 also got toys and when she took them from him he screamed.
DS1: Was surprisingly not into boxes and wrapping material!
coffee bean / 46 posts
@agold: My SIL actually got this for my brother--it was a huge hit for the 31 year old as well!
Hits--
10 years: Smartwatch
6 years: LeapFrog Rockit (handheld game system for little ones)
2 years: Baby doll
Misses--
Pretty much everything my youngest BIL got them. He clearly didn't want to be here and had just gotten some really random items from the dollar store (like a plastic, unpainted horse--why?). We would've much rather he had just come to spend time with us, but he kind of threw his SO at my kids and stared at his phone the whole time. :\
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
@agold: can you post the amazon link? I might get that for our January bdays!
cantaloupe / 6086 posts
We’ve done Santa and one grandparent so far so still some presents to go at other grandparent and then January bdays so yeah ... lots of stuff!
Big hits -
7yo - OG (target brand AG) sweet treat cart, mc2 spy kit, lego house
4yo - hot wheels corkscrew track, yellow spark armor Optimus prime, lego ninjago
1yo - toddler slide by far! She also likes the sit and spin puppy we got her but did the slide 8000 times once she figured out doing it herself (left it inside for now)
Misses - books ... although they always get looked at more later so I don’t worry about it. Just not as exciting in the moment.
Some small stuff from FIL I will donate - he just doesn’t have a great idea what to get beyond the big idea we give him
The toy story little people I got for 1yo - I wanted to fill her stocking with something but I have a feeling they won’t get much love! My 4yo likes the forky though

@agold: Can you share the link? I have lots of kid bday parties coming up
pomelo / 5573 posts
B (5):
Hit: air hockey table
Miss: this light up moving dragon thing that he said he really wanted that he is absolutely not interested in.
W (3):
Hit: Playmobil Mission to Mars rocket ship set
Miss: the same dumb dragon. I had a feeling they weren’t going to be interested...should have listened to my gut.
nectarine / 2262 posts
4yo:
Hit: Little brother's motorized train (sigh); Thomas the train big storybook; Muppet Babies microphone (sidenote, do not buy this, it is annoying AF)
Miss: unfortunately the remote control car Santa brought almost lit on fire, so he can't play with it and my in-laws were supposedly going to send him another car that drives up walls, but it was out of stock so they sent him a TOY GUN instead (WTF?!?!?!). Needless to say, I hid the gun but I feel kind of bad he didn't have a great Christmas gift.
19 mo:
Hit: water wow mat (like water wow but a big mat on the floor); stuffed animals, being pushed around in empty Amazon boxes
Miss: clothes? he's happy about everything
Hit with both: Ikea tent and tunnel. They have crawled and played in it nonstop.
persimmon / 1380 posts
@agold: I almost got the ufo thing from Costco but was done shopping and over budget. I regret not getting it now!
apricot / 286 posts
Hits:
Dd6 - AG remote control car, Owlee
Dd4 - double stroller, Peppa Pig Fair playset
Misses:
Pop Pop Snotz - omg that stuff is gross. Regular slime is bad, but this stuff is just the worst.
apricot / 390 posts
Hits: Ribbon wand and Ukulele for DD (2.5)
No huge misses, but DD is 2.5 and DS is 4m, so not a ton of room for missing this year
nectarine / 2243 posts
5 yo girl: Elsa costume, beading kit, paw patrol stuffie
2 yo boy: little tykes airplane and Daniel tiger trolley. Also bag of assorted mini sports balls
persimmon / 1196 posts
DD is 4.
Biggest Hits: dress-ups and Lego sets
Misses: a dollar-spot sticker book thing that it turns out isn't very high quality (and therefore is hard for her to use), and a bath bomb that I erroneously told her had prizes hidden inside it
grapefruit / 4291 posts
Kids are 7, 4.5 and 20m and fave presents have been scooters (7yo and 20mo), balls (all kids), books, and homemade cookies from Grandma!
cherry / 108 posts
Kids are 6 and 4.
Hits:
They both loved their singing Anna and Elsa dolls.
6 year old: 5 Second Rule Jr, scrunchies, puzzles, Owleez, art supplies
4 year old: Osmo Little Genius starter kit, Barbies, Butterbean Cafe toys, Unicorn play doh set
Misses:
They didn’t care much for the books I bought them
clementine / 878 posts
Daughters age 7 and 4
Hits: LEGO sets featuring Disney princesses.
They were playing with these for 3 days straight!
Miss: Random baby toy given to all the 4 year olds at preschool. Totally not age appropriate! Really missed the age bracket.
persimmon / 1233 posts
4 and 7 yo boys hits: Beyblades, Sleeping Queens card game, diary with a lock on it, gift certificate to bookstore (7 yo), real stethoscope (4 yo), Shrinky Dinks (both)
Misses: clothes (but I'm not surprised)
nectarine / 2690 posts
Now that we're a few days in, I feel like I can answer this. There isn't really anything that she doesn't like just yet, so, no misses this time. DD is 3 1/2:
Biggest hits:
Anna & Elsa Barbie dolls
Pop up tent
All of her dresses. This kid is a girly girl and likes to wear dresses.
Her "makeup". Except it isn't makeup, its a hair dryer, comb, mirror, etc kit
pear / 1565 posts
Biggest hit is the cheapest item My 5 and 3 year old girls are obessed with these M&D make-a-face pads where you make princess' faces, or another one is more adding accessories/nails to "models".
My 5 year old is not AS into Osmo as she had wanted it.
pomelo / 5621 posts
6.5DS was not impressed by the big pack of batteries wrapped for the both of them under the tree. If looks could kill when he opened that
pomegranate / 3973 posts
We had a lot of hits this year!
DS (5) LOVES his bathrobe, one of those, he needs it but might not like it gifts, wants to wear it ALL the time.
As far as toys, the Doctor kit he got, both LO's are obsessed with playing dr.
DD (2-1/2) loved the Melissa & Doug Ice Cream set, and her balance bike.
Misses - Really, nothing with the kids, they loved everything; but I will vote for this Frozen Trouble game: https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Gaming-Trouble-OLAFS-Adventure/dp/B07MMP11S4/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=frozen+game&qid=1577978339&s=toys-and-games&sr=1-2 . My 2 year old got it, and it's above her age range, but both kids still love to play - it is SO SO messy because there is water everywhere if they play by themselves, and of course they want to play all the time.
