What non-electronic toys would you recommend for a 6-12 month old? Our LO will be 7 months at Christmas and family is starting to ask us for gift ideas.
So far, all of our toys have been gifted or handed down to us (activity gym, stuffed animals, finger puppets, o ball, rattles, etc.). I'm trying to avoid a ton of toy clutter, so I'd love to hear what play items your LO loved at that stage! (I'd also be curious to hear if they stood the test of time.)

Anything to do with stacking or nesting was a big hit at that time for our DS - cups that fit in each other, stacking rings, rings that click together. DS is almost 15 months now, and he still plays with all of those on a daily basis, but we've added Duplos now and he loves those as well!

I just ordered sound blocks from a recommendation on the blog and I'm really excited for them. Hape and Plan Toys make a lot of nice wooden things. A walker? We have a Hape wooden walker that was a big hit.

We have the Melissa and Doug alligator walker and it's a big hit. DS also loves blocks, cars, Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles, Melissa and Doug animal magnets, balls, books and stacking toys. At 11 months, he's not really into stuffed animals.

Bead maze, Melissa and Doug deluxe pound-a-peg (warning that LO puts the hammer in his mouth but he also likes playing with it without the hammer), stacking cups, Hohner kids glockenspiel, Mega Bloks. We got all of these 3-4 years ago with my first, and they're all still in use with both him and now my second. Have definitely stood the test of time!

For a gift on the bigger side, We got lo a zany zoo around that age and it was a big hit, and at 2.5 she still breaks it out sometimes! Our babes will be roughly the same age at Christams. He will receive a Grimm stacker and activity cube- B Zany Zoo plus two other things that aren't really toys. Does your LO have an exersaucer? We started using the Oribel Portaplay and so far LO likes it. It doesn't have any noisy electronic components.

Oh he's also a fan of the fisher price piano and xylophone. He has an activity cube too but it doesn't see much action right now

@peaches1038: Did your LO like the activity cube at first? I was thinking about getting one (multiple toys in one!) but they're pricey!
@hummusgirl: Good to know! Love the mega blocks..they are definitely on my list at some point soon! I still remember playing with them when I was a kid.

Looks like it's discontinued but we have this and ALL three of my kids loved it.
Also, mega bloks is always a go-to toy.

@atoz: it was a gift to my daughter when she was 2 and completely ignored until my son started playing with it as soon as he could sit up. Now he crawls over to it and plays anytime he's near.
