LO, 27 months, has had a cough and a cold(s) for a few weeks now. She came down with a fever Wednesday that hit a high of 102.8F rectal (temporal thermometer freaked me out at 105.3F). When she had the fever she was breathing rapidly, which is typical for her fevers. However, typically her breathing returns to normal as soon as her temperature goes down.

This time the fever has been gone since yesterday morning but the rapid breathing continues. It is not labored or wheezy but fast and kind of shallow. No blue lips or fatigue or anything of that nature.

My MIL, a nurse, is staying with us and called LO's breathing 'cute'. LO has been breathing that way since she arrived so I don't know if she realizes how different it is than her normal. Except that she commented on it so she must think something is off about it.

I'm afraid we're headed toward LO's 3rd bout of pneumonia and asked DH about calling the doctor today. DH thinks I'm nuts. If I call the advice line I'm certain they will ask to see her since they don't mess with breathing. DH has brought LO in twice recently for things that turned out to be nothing out of the ordinary (a strep swab since she was exposed & had a fever and checking for an ear infection a few weeks before that). DH is adamant that nothing is wrong this time. He would be the one to take her to the doctors as it is his day off and I think he doesn't want to go.

Does it sound like it's nothing? Am I turning into a crazy over cautious mom as I approach the arrival of baby #2?
