Yes my in laws! We told them we weren't sharing yet, they said oh we totally understand. A week later they posted on FB....

My phd advisor told one of my grad school friends! I actually thought it was funny--I told the guy myself anyway like 5 mins later so it wasn't terrible. Also I was in 2nd tri by then. My advisor had invited me to a conference in France this summer and I had to turn it down bc lo would be too young to travel, and this guy was my replacement, and she invited him by saying why I couldn't go

Eta oh! And mil's best friend broke the news to one of dh's close friends-- dh had been waiting to tell him in person. Dh was pretty pissed!

My mom made a "prayer request" for me at church. Before I knew it I was getting well wishes from half the town. I wasn't thrilled.

My mil told everyone and their mother when we were pregnant with Chloe.

No one blew my cover this time.

It is never acceptable to announce on the parents behalf!!

First pregnancy:

1. We told my parents not to tell anyone, especially since after we told them we found out via ultrasound I was 2 weeks less far along than I thought. They told my high school track coach.

2. Told my ILs and told them not to tell anyone. Run into one of their friends at the gym a week later. "FIL decided to treat us like family and let us in on the good news!"

3. I applied for a job 5 mo pregnant. I was able to hide it in the interview. Meanwhile, I got an e-mail from somebody else asking if I was interested in applying for a job they had available, which would start on my due date and end three months later. I wrote back saying thanks for the offer, I would love to, but I am pregnant and the timing doesn't work. She forwarded that e-mail to the person whose job I was applying with, saying "know anyone else who might be interested?"

Second pregnancy:

1. Gave very clear instructions to NOT TELL ANYONE to my parents. Come home for Christmas 10 weeks pregnant. My mom's friend whom I've never met comes up to me at church and grabs my stomach and asks "how are you feeeeeeeling???"

My FIL posted on Facebook when we were at 8 weeks along. I didn't even know but had a friend catch it almost immediately and she called me. I called my husband in tears (thanks hormones) and he called and had him take it down before a whole lot of people saw it.

I was super worried about this, turns out my mil had a hunch and told everyone she knew that she thought I was expecting but we swore her to secrecy and she managed to pull it off. Problem is now there are a bunch of distant aunts etc that I am pretty sure don't know and I feel sort of awkward informing people so late...

Nope, no one. DH says it's because everyone is too scared of my wrath. That being said, we didn't tell anyone except immediate family at 12 weeks, didn't tell my work till 20 weeks, and never put anything on FB (I even shut down my wall).

Holy crap these are some awful stories! No, luckily we only told our parents, who have common sense. Actually...the first time my grandparents found out first because we were at their home for the weekend shortly after, and I was so sick that it was hard to hide! My MIL was a bit impatient waiting for us to be ready to tell everyone, but she still didn't say anything to anyone.

My in-laws both times.

DH did to a couple that we were making dinner plans with! "How about sushi?" "No, my wife cannot eat sushi". So tactful! I think I'm really the one letting the cat out of the bag though... Sooo many people have guessed/asked already! Do I look that fat/miserable? lol!

With my second and third, MIL told everyone - way before we wanted her to, we made it clear too.

DH had agreed to not tell his mom until later because she can't keep a secret. But he was so excited he decided to tell her at 6 weeks. She claims she asked if she could tell her mom (we do NOT recall that) but we don't have a relationship with MIL's mom so either way, whatever... just got mad that MIL's mom then told DH's aunt who we wanted to tell ourselves. No worse feeling that telling someone and having them say "I know... XYZ told me."

@swurlygurl: haha that's HILARIOUS!!! What happened after you said that??? DH did that when we got married "secretly" (courthouse) prior to our wedding so i could be on DH's insurance. He was filing taxes at his mom's and she was asking if I did mine, and he said, no, we filed together because we're married. WHOOPS.

Yes, somehow it got around to some people I barely know, and never see! It wasn't such a big deal cause I didn't announce to anyone other than immediate family until after I heard the heartbeat, which wasn't until 14 weeks. Actually - several extended family members were really offended that I waited that long.

@swurlygurl: we made it not a big deal... to us it was not "legit" until we were married in our church. We told my mom but again... his mom can't keep a secret! So she wasn't supposed to know! We also didn't want anyone to take our wedding less seriously.

I just found out last night that my mom told the rest of my family.

We were out for a family dinner when I was only about 7 weeks pregnant, and my mom knew but nobody else did (well, besides my husband, of course). But they were all being super-obnoxious and kept asking me why I wasn't drinking. I just kind of blew them off and never answered.

Well, after my husband and I left the restaurant, everyone bombarded my mom and asked if I was pregnant, and she didn't even try to respect our privacy. She just told them that I was.

It's too late to be mad about it now but I'm still really annoyed.

Luckily everyone respected our wishes. Well.. My step dad emailed his dad right away (who I never see and lives 8 hours away). I wasn't mad but my mom have him shit! Haha
