When I was picking a name instead of thinking of all the awesome people I know by a certain name my brain would go to the one booger eater in second grade or bratty teenager I knew that had that name. I think I was driving my husband crazy because pretty much every name I could find something negatively associated with it. We ended up settling on a name that isn't that uncommon but neither of us knew anyone with that name so no negativity associated with us. I'm not usually such a negative nancy but couldn't get passed it for names.

Yea... and just knowing people of that name in general. DH has a HUGE family and we're very involved in our church (3k+) so it most names we associate closely with someone we know.
It's made things difficult for sure. ugh!

Hahaha, or how many guys I dated in high school/college. I would hear a name or hubs would bring a name up and I'd be like, nope, I dated a ::insert name:: when I was 16.

Yes! Almost all the names we picked, we knew someone that turned us away from the name! Luckily, the name we absolutely love, we don't know anyone named it!

OMG that is hilarious. It's so true, though! There are a few names I love that my husband won't accept because he has harsh feelings towards co-workers with those names.

Before we decided to use family names, I was worried he'd want a name that I associate with a student I had trouble with when I was teaching.
Then, before we found out we were having a girl, he liked the idea of naming a boy James TIberious after Star Trek. I couldn't deal with James because of a student, and the middle name was too much. Glad we're having a girl! -
Too funny. DH used to work at an after school program. It feels like every name I like reminds him of some troublemaker kid. Ugh.

Yeah, that eliminates a lot of names. My daughter has a common name but we both don't know anyone else with the name so it was an easy decision.

Haha, we used a family (aka old person ) name so we didn't know many people with our options. I don't know anyone with our baby's name ... other than my hubby's great Grandma.

In a way, yes. There were some names that I loved but one of us had bad experiences with people with that particular name.

I had a lot of cute names but because I'm a teacher, I didn't want to name my kid after a bratty student!
