Pretty much our vacation was going to visit my grandparents in Arkansas for a week, I loved it. Some of my favorite memories. We never did anything super big, but the places we went I had fond memories of. We plan on doing vacations with our kids, something we both feel strongly about which I'm happy about!

We didn't go on a lot of vacations, but the vacations we went on were awesome. A trip to California (we live in New England), a trip to Florida, and the best was a trip to England. Mostly we did local things and visited our grandparents for a week during the summer.

No not many. Once when I was 5 and then again at 14 but with a friend, not my family. Then a few times after that again with a friend. I want to travel more! Hope we can get there at some point in the near future.

We usually went to the beach every summer. Same beach, same hotel even. We've gone back twice with my family since we've had kids and it's fun to share that and have the nostalgia of sharing the same place with our kids.

Lots of small trips, and a few memorable big trips.

Yes, we usually made 1-2 trips a year to visit family all over the US.

No, we didn't. We did do things like drive to Atlanta to go to Six Flags and camp at the lake near our house.

Not really. Our family has a house and at one time, multiple houses on Cape Cod, so we always went there for the summer.
We went to visit family in KY a few times and to Disney once.
I definitely want to take J on a few vacations, if we can.

Not really. I remember a small handful of long vacations (Disney, Vietnamese camping trips), but most were over the weekend or a day trip. I used to be jealous of my school mates that flew somewhere to go on vacation. I didn't fly my first time til I was in high school.

We went on low budget, road trip, camping "vacations" every year when I was a kid. It was a 3 week long trip every summer.

We only went on a true "vacation vacation" once, to Disney, when I was 7. It was payed for by my grandfather.

Yes. Almost all of them were camping trips in young childhood. But we went on two cross country road trips.

No. My parents were workaholics. The only time we traveled was when family and friends came to visit us. We would show them around the area for day trips - Philly, NYC, DC, etc.

We did a 1 week beach vacation to the same shore town every year...and still do. We had a few big trips over the years -- Hawaii to celebrate the year one of us was graduating from grad school, college and high school and my parent's anniversary. We tagged along one year on a business trip of my dad's to California. We didn't do the beach those years though. I love the idea of going back to the same place every summer (DH grew up doing the same) but I hope to have my kids see a bit more of the country/world than I did. In an ideal world where we win the lottery....

Once a year or so. We would go on a beach trip early, and usually one long weekend or something we'd do an educational trip like Boston or DC.

I don't know what to compare it to. We weren't jet setters, but I certainly wasn't a stranger to plane rides and long car rides. We typically went on a week long vacation and then had a few overnight or long weekend trips through out the year. Sometimes our week long vacays were as a family of four and sometimes my mom would take us.

Nope. We were a very typical immigrant family so there was no money for yearly vacations. I remember one where we went back to China to visit my grandmother. That was our only family vacation before my dad passed away.

When I was a bit older we took a bus tour to DC and Virginia with my brothers and their GFs.

We went camping a lot when I was younger, and did a lot of river trips. I was lucky to grow up in a place where 4-6 hours of driving would take you to any number of national parks! Once my dad was more established in his career we started to go on a spring break trip every year, starting when I was 11 or so. Now that I think about it, maybe they were just waiting until the kids were old enough to better handle traveling. The first trip we went to Disney World, we also went to Hawaii once, Washington DC, San Diego....

And every summer we went to visit my grandparents--3 weeks in rural Wisconsin with my mom's side, 3 weeks in northern Minnesota with my dad's side. One of my favorite childhood memories is when my dad drove out to meet us in Minnesota, and I got to drive back with him by myself! We drove through the badlands of South Dakota, saw Mt. Rushmore, did all the quirky things you do on a long road trip like that. I loved that trip!!!

Travel was very important to our family. We were really lucky in that my mom traveled a lot for work, so our hotels were often paid for, and our flights were usually covered by frequent flier miles. We often traveled with her when she had to travel for work. Otherwise there's no way we could have afforded a lot of the vacations we took. Hawaii, California, ski trip to Colorado...

Yes, we did lots of trips to the US, Europe and Africa. My parents are not big on camping at all. But we did lots of driving across France, Germany etc. and once a year we got to pick a destination we wanted to visit. We spent the whole year earning about it and then in summer took a 3 week trip there. I highly doubt that I can afford to replicate that for my kids but I would love to try.

@plantains: I LOVE the idea of learning about the location before you visit. I may have to steal that idea!!
