I had a twin brother, so I got to experience being a boy and having a brother. It had a big impact on me and served as a template for a lot of my male friendships, and I'm a little sad that my son won't ever experience that. But not so sad that I'm willing to have a third kid!
With falling family size, same-sex siblings are becoming more rare... at least among my friends. Here are my stats:
ME: Yes, a twin brother.
MY KIDS: Nope, we have a boy and a girl

I grew up an only child (half siblings from dad's previous relationships but I didn't know them). My daughters are, of course, sisters. I'm so happy about that and I hope they're close.

I'm an only child so I didn't experience anything, lol. I have two girls and the sister bond is so special. They're already talking about being mommies themselves and raising their kids together. Wish I had a sister!

I had 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Now I have 2 boys. Even though I come from a big family, 3 kids seems like a lot!

Yes, not biologically and not until I was older and our parents got married. I have 3 older brothers, 2 older stepbrothers and a younger stepsister.

I have a brother and 3 sisters, and I am way closer to my sisters. My sisters are my best friends, I am so lucky to have them! I have two girls and I am so glad they will have each other. I was really happy when we found out the baby was a girl so dd1 would have a sister. (But a little sad for DH that he won't have a son).

@AnnabelleG: same- one of 5 soblings and I love being from a big family but can't imagine parenting more than 2. I don't know how my mom did it.

Me: yes, 4 sisters... so much drama. I didn't get along with them until after we all grew up and started families of our own. Also they're all much older and younger than me (9+ years in both directions)
My Kids: yes, 2 boys who get along for the most part. LO2 wants to do everything with his big brother.

Yep, I have a sister and a brother. I have two girls so they will get to experience that, but I'll never experience them having a brother. A little sad, but I love the potential best friend relationship my girls will have in the future.

Dh has two brothers.
We have 2 boys at home, so yes for them!

Yes, I have 3 sisters and we are all great friends. We were very close during childhood and had a lot of fun, but I'm not sure gender mattered to that at all until the teen years. I have 2 boys and dh is one of 3 boys, so we have no experience at all of multi gender sibs!

I have two sisters (though they are much older, so they were more like moms/babysitters until I grew up). I'm currently 29 was with my third girl.
After my first was a girl, I couldn't imagine her not having a sister. DH has a brother and a sister, and while he hoped for ONE boy, interestingly he didn't have the same attachment to that boy having a brother as I did to a girl having a sister. My SIL has good things to say about how having two brothers prepared her for life, but is VERY pleased about my house full of girls :).

@mrbee: I have one brother and that's it. I always wanted a sister and my brother always wanted a brother haha. Just the two of us though.
My DH has a brother and 2 sisters but could care less, haha.

Not growing up - I grew up with my two brothers (2 and 6 years younger). Mum fell pregnant with my sister when I was in university and she was born just before I turned 20. We joke that mum replaced me.

I am the middle of 3 sisters and DH is the oldest of 2 brothers. We have a daughter and a son. So glad they'll get to experience an opposite sex sibling relationship, but sad that my daughter will never have a sister.

Nope, only a brother. I desperately wanted a sister - my mom took me with her to the ultrasound where she found out the gender. The tech tried to show me it was a boy, and I kept insisting that was "her fingers" 
My brother and I are not that close, but I think it has more to do with personalities than with gender.

None of us will ever know what it's like to not have a same sex sibling! Growing up, I did always wish I had a brother.
