My midwife works on call 10 days on, 4 days off so it's super likely she'll be working when I go into labour. With my last baby she attended the bjrth but I transferred care to the hospital so she came as moral support.

I met with all of the midwives in the practice, so I would have known whoever ended up being on call. Thankfully, it ended up being my favorite midwife!

Yes....my labor was 30 hours long, and I knew my doctor was coming on call the day after I arrived. When it clicked over to midnight and not much progress was made, I made a mental note to try and stick it out until he came on call. When the doctor who'd currently been on-call came to check me around 4 AM I told her I didn't want her touching me. She'd been abrasive, insensitive, and had made so many missteps up until that point that I wanted nothing to do with her. I trusted my doc, and almost cried with happiness when he finally walked in! We're SO lucky he was there for the actual birth/surgery!

At my practice they make you rotate through all 6 obs because you just get who is on call the day you deliver. I had met them all and just happened to get lucky and get my favorite on the day.

Yes! My doc always delivers her own babies during business hours and LO was delivered at 9am. I have a new OB now from the same practice because my previous one switched over to just GYN. I really hope my new primary delivers me, because I like her even more than I liked me old doc!

Mine did but only because she scheduled my induction for the week she would be at the hospital.

Yes and I was so glad! She came on at 8:00 am and H was born at 8:55. The other midwife was my least favorite.

My ob was on call when I was admitted, which was super reassuring since I was induced at the spur of the moment and hadn't really expected it (I knew I could be induced after 37 weeks but I didn't even ha e my bag packed yet!). She didn't deliver lo but the midwife at the practice did and she was amaaaaazing

No, but I knew that was very likely. I saw one midwife at the practice for almost all my appts but whoever is on does the deliveries. I ended up liking the midwife on call better than anyone I had met so far. She was awesome. Technically an OB I just met delivered the baby since I needed a vacuum extraction at the end but she was there for all of half an hour maybe. The midwife and nurse were with me the whole time. So it was luck of the draw but very good luck for me.

Yes. My midwife practice works in pods of three, so I knew my two primary midwives (my third was on vacation at my due date so never had any prenatal appointments with her). My prenatal appointments alternated between my two midwives and I was also followed by their student. The student actually caught my DD and did all of the stitches and whatnot. My midwife just oversaw the process. It was a really great experience. Also, since I was in their care for 6 weeks PP. it was nice to know both my midwives closely, since I saw whoever was on call for my postnatal checks and breastfeeding support.

No and I didn't expect it. I have Kaiser so there were probably 20 OBs/midwives that could have been on shift when I delivered. Very unlikely that you would get your own or someone you had met.

Yep, she delivered both of my girls!

For the first I was induced, so obviously she planned to be there, and for the second I just happened to deliver at 9 am on a Monday morning so she was already at the hospital seeing patients.

I hope she's there for my third. She's an incredible coach!

Yes, I really lucked out!

No, we were there for several shift changes & my OB wasn't on. I didn't mind, as she didn't seem like she would have amazing bedside manner, but that wasn't what I chose her for anyway. Though I'd met several other Drs, the one who delivered DD was a resident I hadn't previously met, but I quite liked him. And yeah, he was in to check on me often, but was just there to catch. It was all about the nurses, really who made my experience su0ch a good one.

It doesn't work that way here. Midwives either work in the community or at the hospital. The midwife you see for your antenatal appointments is a community midwife, holding"clinics" at local GP surgeries. The midwife who delivers your baby in hospital, you will have never net before (and she only has a few scribbled notes in a booklet to go on!). I was high risk so under the care of an OB. I actually only met her once, when I was 25 weeks. All other appointments were with students, with her "supervising" remotely. She made the decision to induce at 38wks without having actually seeing me! My baby was delivered by a midwife. I saw my OB in the corridor the morning after I delivered and she looked straight through me - she had no clue who I was!!

Yes. I go to a practice where there is only 1 OB, no midwives. I liked knowing that it would be my doctor more than likely, unless something weird happened and he couldn't make it. I was induced with #1, and he came in throughout the day to check on me, and then did my csection. He did my scheduled csection with #2, as well

No. I see a Cleveland Clinic OB and delivered at a CC hospital (so there are a large amount of OBs that rotate days there). I labored for 14 hours and then needed and emergency c-section. The OB on called handled me with such care and compassion. I handled the c-section news horribly because I was afraid the baby was in danger. I couldn't have asked for a better experience with the OB that did it or the ones who cared for me after.

This time I'm scheduled for a RCS so we will see. If I make it to 39 weeks it'll be my OB who I love.
