Hellobee Boards

This is actually somewhat of a sore spot for me. I know my daughter loves me and appreciates me for providing her basic needs etc but the love she has for my husband is different. She's only 5.5 months old but she's already head over heals in love with him. The second she hears his voice she'll stop what she's doing and try to find him. This morning she got up about an hour earlier than usual and I was spending time with her. After about an hour she was getting cranky so we went to wake up daddy so I could get ready for work and the second she saw him she started giggling and laughed for about 30 minutes straight. I know a big part of this is probably because he's a SAHD, but I honestly think she just loves his personality. He's the silly one, always making faces and talking in silly voices to her. I won't lie, it stings a little bit sometimes but then we talk about who she'll go to for dating advice or when she wants to go shopping for clothes or any other girly things that will happen during her teenage years and I feel better. I know I've rambled, but I think a lot of it is to say that although she loves us both she definitely has a special love for her daddy.

I love my dad but I lived with my mom growing up and am much closer to her. I'm not sure how much my relationships with them were influenced by the living arrangement but now that I'm 31 she's still the parent I'm closest to.

I love my dad, and I am super close to him. I have a not so great relationship with my mom, and my dad filled the role of both parents at times. I am definitely daddy's little girl.

I think it also depends on the personality and how the father sets the tone from the get go. I'm one of two girls in the family, and my older sister and dad are very similar in personality, and being the oldest child, she never had that "special" bond with him. She attributes that to him being too hard on her and expecting the world from her starting at an early age. I guess he wanted her to be the son he had wanted?

However I'm the second daughter / middle child and I really identify with that special relationship that some fathers and daughters have. So for me, it's really how the father clicks with his daughter and how he "treats" her so to speak.

We also have a younger brother, and I'd say out of the three, I'm really the only one with that special bond with my dad.

I remember my mom telling me that it was a good thing she had good ego strength when I was little because, hands-down, I preferred my dad. But then around 6 or 7, when it's normal developmentally, I started to identify more with my mom. She said it was really cute/sad because it happened so quick that it just left my poor dad confused and a little heartbroken. I think that pattern is fairly common.

I am definitely daddy's girl. My mom is also my best friend. But, I've had my dad tied around my finger since FOREVER. Next to my husband, my dad was the first man in my life to teach me what unconditional love truly is; and to this day, he still says that I make his go 'round. (That is - until grandkids are in the picture!)
