I'd like to get some MagnaTiles for my son for Christmas. Do they ever go on sale? Where?
Thanks!

I'd like to get some for my son as well. I've never seen them on sale or even being sold second hand.

We waited for a sale for over a year... finally bought them full-price, and then understood why they never go on sale! Hundreds of hours of entertainment.... it's like free babysitting, totally worth it. Our kids are almost 4 and 6, and still play with them all the time.

I've been going back and forth on buying these for years but haven't yet...so they're really worth it, @mrbee: ?

@Bao: totally worth it!!! It's the one toy he's played with nearly every day multiple times a day!

@Bao: they're amazing!! Especially once our youngest child learned to stop knocking down her older brother's tiles...

I just bought some for LO last night! If you've never created a Jet.com account, or if someone you know who would let you use their email and debit card, you can save $15 off $35 with code 15BUCKSNOW. There was also an additional $1 discount for refusing free return shipping and another small discount for using a debit card. Free shipping, no tax. The 32 piece set is regularly $51.50, and I got it for $34.69. That's basically a 35% savings--I haven't seen them any cheaper than that.

@QBbride: I bought a knock off brand on Amazon that my nieces and love! Still expensive but you get a lot more pieces.

If you're close to a Lakeshore, you could use a 20% off coupon (sign up for emails). The shipping prices are crazy so you'd need to go in person. They also sometimes have buy one get one half off.

@photojane: I'm going to try this!
We have mag formers and my daughter hardly plays with them so I'm not sure it's worth the price for me.
I have seen coupons in fat brain toys work on them.

I've used a 20% off coupon at Learning Express and also bought it on clearance at Target.

@MrsH: @yin: I heard a blogger say the target ones are different. Any idea if that's true? She'd bought the target set and a set from somewhere else both magnatiles and said the magnets weren't as strong in the target ones.

@jetsa: The Target ones that were on clearance in August were the solid colored set (Target exclusive 56pc set). I'm not sure if the magnets are not as strong as the clear colored ones. I'd assume they'd be the same..

I got them on clearance at Target last month but haven't opened them yet, since they are for her birthday. They were $39 for 56. Solid tiles. One of the Targets near me had 5 or 6 boxes left last week.

Thanks everyone!! I was hoping for somewhere online since I'm in Canada

@jetsa: Hmm, I wonder if I should take them back?! I bought 3 sets so I could give them to my nephews too...

I just was looking at target's website and they have magformers NOT magna-tiles --- I have seen magformers on zuilily and stuff as well I think they are a knock off brand.
A) what is the age range on these -- my son will be 2.5 for xmas worth it?
B) can anyone vouch for magformers are they OK?

I bought the magnatiles on clearance from Target. Seem to work perfectly fine to me but that's the only kind we have.
Target did do a toy trade in even last year where you got a 10% off coupon I believe if you brought in a used toy. We used that to buy our first set then bought a second set on clearance 50% off.
I definitely think they are worth it.
@reverie: I bought magnatiles from Target. They are definitley magna-tiles not magformers. Maybe they just don't sell them online. My son is almost 3 and he has really got into these in the last few months so I think they are worth it at 2.5.

@reverie: target sells magna tiles!

My son was gifted a set for his 2nd bday and we didn't open them until 2.5, he's played with them almost every day multiple times a day since! He turns 3 in November!

@jetsa: I bought two sets of the solid color target clearance ones and they're just as good as the two clear sets we have from Amazon!

@mrsjyw: so annoying when you search magna-tiles at least when I did at work all that came up were on sale magformers or whatever! Deceiving!
grapefruit / 4441 posts
@mrsjyw: That's good to hear!
A lot of people were creating wedding registries at Target to get 20% off carseats, etc. I think it's 20% off something >$100. It would be a little shady, but might work on that set.

@2littlepumpkins: I was just about to buy them from lakeshore learning but then the shipping was as much as the discount! Do you remember if you got free shipping somehow I'm spoiled by amazon!

Discount School Supply has them for 25% off this weekend. I got the 100 piece set for $100. Shipping is free over $79.

if you live near a lakeshore learning store, they have a buy one, get one 50% off--great deal! if you don't live near a store, shipping is $$$$

Just bought a 48 piece set (reg. $64.50) on Jet.com using the 15BUCKSNOW discount and so my total was $49.50. Plus I used a debit card which will take off another 1.5% off the top. So $48 bucks and some change - approx. 25% off.

@QBbride: today is the last day. But Target has two actual Magna Tiles sets 37 pieces for $60 or 57 pieces for $100. Use code BESTGIFT for 25% off. That's probably the best deal you'll see.

@T.H.O.U.: I've been waiting to find a good deal, and this sounded great! Just ordered. Not sure whether he'll get it for his birthday (Thanksgiving this year) or Christmas, but I'm sure he'll love it!
