We don't - we each only have cell phones. We thought that once we bought a house and/or started a family we would get a landline. Now that we are home owners and have a baby on a way though we still aren't looking into it. I don't know who would call us on it except telemarketers!
I guess at some point though we will have to get one so that our LO's can talk to their friends?? I wonder when we'll bite the bullet!

I'm considering getting one... or a cheapie for G for house use only since adding a cell line will probably be cheaper. That way if I need to run to the convenient store or drop his dad off to work (not even 10 minutes away) he could stay here & I not freak even though my mom lives almost right next door. lol

Yes, but IDK the number and we don't use it! It was cheaper to bundle a phone with cable. We just have an old phone plugged in on silent in case we ever need to call for an emergency.
*BTW - Even if you don't pay for a landline, you can always call 911 with a landline phone plugged in.
Good for when LO arrives!

Yes, this is a non-negotiable for me. Drives DH crazy! I am of the mentality if you have a house, you have a home phone.
Old school maybe, but I don't care, lol.
We both have cells, but mine is a work one I am allowed to use for personal use, so I think that's half my issue, while I use it for personal use, I don't want to give it to everyone as "my" number, we will always have a home, and I think it's important to always have a phone number attached to it!

@shopaholic: That's good to know! From what I can remember, I don't think we have a working phone line here at all.... they had to come do something for our internet but that was before we lived here. Hmmm I should inquire!

Nope. We plan to get one once LO has friends calling her and school projects and stuff like that to coordinate, but we're in no rush.

@prettylizy: That's my current plan too. Though I don't know if we will need to - I teach Grade 2 and all the kids FaceTime each other on their parents' (or their own) ipads/ipod touches. Blows my mind!

No landline for us. I would kind of prefer to have one, for emergencies and such, but it was actually a lot more to include it-- like $20 a month! I thought with a bundle it would be dollars more, not 20.
I have no idea what will be around by the time our LO is old enough to make phone calls! I guess we'll just need to make sure babysitters have their own cell, when the time comes.

Yes, and we're making sure that it's a proper landline as well, after our cable landline went out during Hurricane Sandy. With no power, we couldn't charge cellphones, computers or iPads, and of course the cable modem went dead, so we had no communications. Definitely useful, just in case.

We just got one. It was in a package that made everything cheaper when we switched cable companies. We didn't give anybody the number but it rings all the time! I never answer. I'm glad we have it though in case something happens to my cell and I have an emergency.

We will need one for our alarm system.
I think it's always a good idea to have a landline. There have been situations where cell phone service isn't available and I don't want to be in the position where DS can't reach me.

Yes because of our alarm system since I haven't made the call to have it monitored wirelessly, and we use our fax machine. I know, who still uses faxes now days?! Lol.

Yes. I mainly use it for long distance calls but we have it for emergencies in the event that one of us or both or whatever doesn't have a cell phone. I feel more comfortable with them.
Also, I'm pretty sure that they help police locate you faster if it's from a landline. They have a harder time locating cell phones.

No. We do have a VOIP line at home.
1) Good for if there is an emergency in the middle of the night and when both our phones are off
2) It's a number we can more freely hand out to like the dry cleaner and such. We don't like giving our cell numbers out willy nilly.
It's pretty sucky quality though, but it's almost free (it's like $5 a month). We almost always use our cell phones.

Nope, just our cell phones. I've read that, if you have a phone with GPS capabilities, the potential problem of emergency services not knowing where you are is either eliminated or greatly reduced.
Hadn't thought about what we'll do when we have a LO who wants to call friends, etc-- but by then it'll be The Future, and he/she'll just be able to, like, teleport or talk to a hologram of the friend, right?

No, we'll probably never get one. When DD is old enough for it to be an issue, I'm sure there will be a more convenient/newer way for her to communicate with people

We currently just have cell phones. Since we live in a small apartment and can hear a cell phone ringing from all the rooms, it didn't make sense to add a land line. Not for lack of trying on our cable company's part, they send us the damn offer every. single. week.
I do agree with @Beebug: and @apis: though. Once we are living in a proper house we'll put one in for emergencies and such, and just to have a number attached to our home!
I want my future children to have their home phone number engraved in their brain like mine is in mine!

we have a land line. had it put in when we moved into this house and i was pregnant. we use it quite a lot, actually. it's easier than our cell phones when family/friends call and want to reach either one of us.
