Recipes? It's an espresso maker. So you can make anything that is made with espresso.
I make lattes with the milk frother that came with mine.
I have the Nespresso Vertuoline Bundle with is the Inissia + milk frother.
I love lattes. Capsules are about $0.40-0.50 each but compared to a Starbucks latte... it's still much cheaper.

Oh, I just reread your post.
I would get a milk frother, coffee syrups (vanilla, caramel, gingerbread, etc), latte garnishes (caramel or chocolate sauce) if he likes lattes.

@bluestriped bee: I ended up getting him the bundle with Milk Frother
Question: When you make the espresso do you have to press the button more than once? The directions are awful....

@FaithFertility: Send me a cup here at work when you get a chance. It'll keep me awake!

You should only have to press the button once - sometimes it just takes a while to get going. Enjoy!

@FaithFertility: I just hit the button on the milk frother once.
For espresso, I hit it twice. First to wake it up because I'm up first. Then again for the selection I want. Then it takes 5 seconds to warm up and it dispenses it. (If the buttons are lit, then it's already on and you hit it once to start making your espresso.)
In the beginning, I didn't know why there was a delay so I would hit it a few times or hold down the button. That resets it so it dispenses more or less espresso. Read the paper manual or google how to do a factory reset. Took a bit of figuring out when we noticed it was dispensing enough espresso.
