We used to have a backyard but it never got too much use because our kids were younger, and we would have to take them to the yard ourselves and sit and play with them. So we moved to a less expensive place that didn't have a yard, and went to the playground a lot instead.
Now we have a yard again and the kids just go outside on their own, and they really love it! It will be hard to go back to life without a yard if we move back to the city...

We do. It's one of the reasons we live in the NYC borough we live in, and was one of the top criteria in choosing a rental property. Now that we've had it, I don't think we could go back to not having one. It's not just for the kids - DH loves the mental break that gardening and grilling provide for him.

We have a yard but it's mainly for the dogs. Kids aren't close to walking yet so I have some time.

We have a small, paved garden with flower beds around the edges. E can potter around out there on her own now and we've just bought her a play house.

We have a really big yard. We're currently converting a shed into a storybook cottage and then will be building a giant pirate ship. There's a strawberry field and peach, apricot, cherry and plum trees back there. It's def my favorite hang out spot.

Nope. Apartment living here. But we have two parks very close, one is just one building over and the other is a two minute walk.

We didn't when we lived in a condo, but now we have two lawns, a large concreted area and steps leading into woodland at the back of the house. It would be hard for our kids to go back to condo living after having this on their doorstep.

Yes, it was in our top 3 "must-haves" for a house. The area we live in is very hilly so most of the houses in our price range did not have a flat rear yard. The first thing we spent money on was a fence for the yard and it is worth it's weight in gold! DS can't get out which means we can all sit out there on nice days and I can relax and do whatever I want!

Oh yeah. We are out there almost every night. We don't have a playset but we have a big yard she can run in and we have a hammock, play house, sandbox and best of all - woods behind our house to explore.

Yeah we have a grassy spot.
We're having it redone this summer because the fence is damages, there a huge useless concrete pad, and an apple tree that produces obscene amounts of inedible fruit which in turn attracts horrific quantities of wasps.
I'm looking forward to having a nice wasp/concrete free space in a couple months.

Yes, but I wish it was smaller. We don't have a big yard by most standards, but I prefer a smaller space. Just enough to run around but not so much that maintaining the yard is a burden. Also we're working on minimizing the mosquito population in our backyard. The kids prefer to ride bikes around the neighborhood or just stay out in the front yard.

Yes, we have a big yard for our region's standards but LO will only go out when we are out there. I like when the neighbor kids come over. Then I can send her out.

Yes, over an acre and the spot by the house is fenced so she can be left alone for a second while we grab the burgers for the grill or such. She's almost 4. We can see her the whole time.

Yes, right now its open to neighbors and strangers. Once its more private I can see us lettting him roam on his own.

yes. Its tiny and no grass. half is pavers, half is gravel and a tiny portion is trex..We haven't used it with LO up until this point (but I LOVE to garden) But now that LO is close to walking I think we will start to use it a lot more.

Yes, I love it. One of the reasons why I'm hesitant on making a long trip to visit family (and stay there for a few weeks) is because of the (barely there) yard. DD is just so used to running around.

We have a huge fenced yard but it's a giant mess and totally not safe yet for our toddler to play. I look forward to when we invest in landscaping in a couple of years and can spend lots more time out there (it's currently dirt, rocks and a steep hill. Which is great for our dog but not our kid!)

We do have a yard, just an average sized one probably. It's not 100% safe for the youngest because he's such a daredevil so we have to watch them when they are outside.

Yes! Totally fenced! DD mostly likes to circle around the gardening beds! Her playhouse and slides are up on our deck.

Yes! W have a half acre fenced in yard that was one of the selling features when we bought our house. I can't imagine not having it as we use it several times every day.

Yes!! It was a huge reason why we bought the house that we did - the big flat yard! We're also at the end of a cul-de-sac which is great for bike/scooter riding

Yes! Our DS loves to run around and explore our yard. We have an acre, lots of grass, woods, big rocks to climb, 2 raised garden beds, plus a quiet neighborhood street. This is why we bought our house and left the city. Plus, my DH and I love to garden and plant, so it's our oasis too.

I wish! This is the main thing I dislike about living in the city. We have a balcony, so a little outdoor space, but not having a yard suuuuucks especially since we have dogs
