We don't but would really love to some day.
Start up costs are insane though even though I know over the life of our home -if it's a forever home- we'll get the money back.
Maybe one day!

My husband really wants a windmill, but I don't think it's possible in our curren tlocation (not enouh space). The start up costs are very expensive, but the government has so many rebates/tax cuts/etc... that sometimes you can actually get fully reimbursed for renewable energy purchases within the first year! My inlaws put a windmill on their property, and althouh they shelled out 15k for it initially, they got almost all of that back immediately in incentives from the government!

@Honeybee: do you know where your ILs looked to find out about all the government incentives?

I would love to do some, but I am not sure if the roof is positioned to get enough sun.

We only have solar powered attic fans to help with cooling costs. I'd love to have a bunch more to help run the house, especially since we're in Florida.

@regberadaisy: my husband said the company who makes/sells the windmills told my inlaws about the incentives during their first meeting. They gave them a bunch of literature about the benefits lf wind power, how much energy they could expect to generate in their area, the government incentives to help with cost, etc...

Would love to...once we decide to stay in our house forever (or move) we'd like to make our home as energy efficient as possible.

My husband wants something fun - solar, wind, whatever...
Maybe once we're done renovating our house we can start saving up for that

We would love solar panels, but we can't afford them right now. There is a house in our neighborhood with them and they've gotten some grief about how they look. I feel bad for them.

The start up costs are not as insane as they used to be. We are getting panels put up next year or maybe this year (haven't decided yet) and to put up enough panels to cover about 75% of our energy needs (which is all we have space for on the portion of our roof that faces southward, unless we take down bug old trees in our yard) will be under $15k. There is a 30% tax rebate, so your out of pocket is more like 10k. Not cheap by any means, but not totally insane either - we would break even in less than 8 years.

@Grace: We wanted to convert our home to geothermal, but those costs were insane (over 40k), too bad because I think that technology is so cool!!!

@yoursilverlining: There are rebates from our electric company for doing it, so I think it ends up being 20k. Unfortunatley, you need a bit of land to do it, so unless you are building your house, or have an acreage, it's a bit prohibitive.

I would love to, but my community's deed restrictions prohibit it. Also, some states do fantastic tax incentives, but not sure if mine does.
