I think it's kind of sad that breastfeeding is so borderline taboo, I am glad people are starting to do it more often in public and longer too. I grew up around it.

I grew up watching Aunts and cousins doing it. So to me it was how you fed your baby.

I vaguely remember my aunt nursing. My mom BFed my sisters (4.5 & 7.5 years younger) and I have absolutely no recollection of that.
I think teenagers are pretty oblivious though.

My brother was bottle-fed, but I understood that babies could be breastfed as well. There was never learning about it, it was just understood.

I think breastfeeding is "gross" but I also think the fact that people drink cow's milk is "gross" too (even though I love milk). If I think about anything too long it seems gross.

I'm the youngest of my cousins so I was in high school when they started having kids and they all breastfed. It never occured to me that it was gross. It's what our bodies are designed to do....

My only experience with it growing up was seeing one of my aunts do it. Nobody else in my entire family breastfed!

I definitely think it should be included in health education in schools since it is knowledge that's no longer routinely passed down from one generation to the next.

It's very disheartening that some people view it as taboo, with the notion that breasts are reserved solely for sex. A sign of the times and our culture

I'm with you! Don't have any little sibs but grew up with my mom talking about having nursed me. She even had (still has) a large framed photo of her nursing me. I didn't give any of it much thought until I became a mom. It was normal and unremarkable in our family.

I was about 10 when my aunt had her twins & she stayed with my grandparents for awhile postpartum for help during recovery. I remember going to visit and walking I to the living room and she was tandem nursing. My mom told me she was breastfeeding the twins - and that was my first experience learning about BFing!

I never saw ANYONE breastfeed as a child. i never gave it a second thought until I got married and knew I wanted children someday. I'm passionate about helping it be more common knowledge in my area so maybe more moms choose it. Some here just don't know anything about the option to do it so they don't.

I remember asking my mom about it when I looked at my immunization chart. It was listed on there. Otherwise, I always thought it was natural, but I know plenty of babies who were bottle-fed and thought that was natural too.

I wasn't around many babies growing up and I don't ever remember seeing anyone breastfeed. I actually don't have any concept of how I learned about it.

Hm I honestly don't remember a single relative that BF. Almost everyone in my family formula feeds. I have no idea where my desire to breastfeed comes from, truth be told.

Sadly, I never saw any live breastfeeding, ever. We were formula babies, so my parents and in-laws didn't have any advice or stories about it. Great-grandma had tons of stories, though!

I was adopted and the youngest in the family, so I didn't learn about breastfeeding until....my friends had kids maybe? I was definitely not young.

My mom swears she couldn't breastfeed us. But I know I thought it was normal and expected but I'm not sure why.

My mom BF all my younger sisters and she spoke about it often, it seemed like such a natural bonding thing for her so naturally I always wanted to with my kiddos, so far so good with DD

Honestly I thought breastfeeding was gross until the moment I actually breastfed my baby. Even while I was pregnant I was grossed out by the idea of it and intended on doing it for a very short period of time. Imagine how shocked I was when I finally did it and actually love it.

Growing up, I never saw anyone breastfeed. I've never thought it was gross. I hate that breastfeeding is so taboo. It's natural and what our bodies were designed to do, so when I had my first child, I was adamant about breastfeeding her and all of my future kids.

It's funny looking back at how little I knew, even though I planned on BFing.

As a kid, I remember seeing someone do it once. I was pretty shocked she would have a boob out! My aunts had breast reductions and FF so I never saw my cousins BF.

I babysat a TON in high school and college but never really thought about the fact I mixed bottles for some babies and not others. I think I assumed they were all on formula and the mom had just mixed the bottles ahead of time for me. Instead of realizing some were probably breastmilk! And when I worked in a daycare, I knew one mom who came and nursed her kid every couple hours (she worked next door and he wouldn't take a bottle.) I was a little surprised at first but then got used to it. Then another mom who worked there nursed her kid with a cover and I thougt that just looked uncomfortable. We had one mom who brought in pumped milk and I always thought it smelled, haha.

I mean, I was 22 at time, but it's surprising to me, looking back, how immature most of my ideas about BFing were! And even when I got pregnant I thought I would nurse for six months. A lot has changed!
