I had a c-section with Charlie so I never saw my placenta.
With Olive, I delivered my placenta right along with her! I saw it but the memory is a little vague because I was so caught up in the moment.
Do you remember your placenta being delivered? What was the experience like?

I do. E was already on my chest, and they had me push again. It just kind of...slipped out, as gross as that sounds. It felt big and heavy but I was so pumped to have my baby on my chest I pretty much didn't care!

Yes. Ugh. It was kind of stuck and they kept having to push on my uterus which hurt! I think it took quite a while (like an hour) to detach. Not fun.

I remember it clearly and it was an odd sensation. Like a rubbery wet bag being pulled out of my vagina. Now that I think about it, it feels exactly like what I would picture it feeling like. Weird.

@Mrs Hedgehog: pretty much this exactly. They asked if I wanted to see it. I was like, uh, no thanks. Is it all in one piece and healthy? Ok good, no thanks.
But now I'm curious and would look this time. Dh said it was gross.

I remember when it was delivered because they commented on how she had a short cord but I didn't feel a thing. I didn't feel anything when I gave birth to her either my epidural was STRONG.

I remember with LO1 because it was slathered with meconium, like LO. That finalized my decision not to eat my placenta.
I know I saw it with #2 but I don't recall delivering it. I had LO on my hands and knees and had to step/roll over the cord to meet him so I must have delivered it on my back after that. I guess.

I saw it, and when the midwife went to set it in a bowl she dropped it on the hospital floor. It made a loud, squishy wet sound and she and I got the giggles.

@Foodnerd81: i totally wanted to see it! so did DH. mine looked pretty awesome! i think my doula even took a photo.
delivering it was *almost* worse pain than delivering DD because my uterus wasn't contracting, so they were pushing and bothering my lady bits and stomach trying to get it out. i remember holding DD and not being able to enjoy it because they were jumping all around me. super annoying. ha.

Yes...more than that, though, I remember delivering the umbilical cord. It felt like linked sausages tumbling out. Sorry for the visual. It was such a strange feeling.

Mine came out easily after DS was born. I remember it well because I was waiting for them to bring him to me after he was looked over by the pediatric team. My doula said it was one of the biggest ones she's ever encapsulated

I really wanted to see mine (I'm a nerdy science/medical person) but I ended up with a C-section and was having major blood pressure issues by the end of surgery so I didn't get the chance to.

@birdofafeather: @Mrs.KMM: I want to see it, too! I'm nerdy and sciencey. I actually want to cut the cord since DH does not... But since we are having nicu babies, the nicu dr said it won't happen because they want to get the babies to the nicu as quick as possible. I'll settle for seeing the placenta afterwards.
My sister had pictures of hers and it is so amazing. She had a cord that was 3x as long. Nurses said they never saw a cord that long before. I think my sister said it was like 9 ft long.
My doula knows that I want to see the placenta and will take pictures. I am curious to see if it will look normal considering my water broke weeks ago. Wonder if baby boy's placenta will look normal compared to baby girl's placenta that had a leak.

: I don't remember delivering mine. Basically just remember delivering dd and the next thing I knew they were stitching me up.
@birdofafeather: @bluestriped bee: @Mrs.KMM: I wanted to see mine too! But no one ever asked, and by the time I thought about it they had already taken it out of the room. Maybe next time??

With my first, I vaguely remember them massaging it out and asking me if I wanted to see it, while I was holding my baby (I declined!). With my second, I was really out of it (pre-e, failed epi with pitocin-induced labor, hemorrhaging, passing clots...scary), so I don't remember that at all, but I do remember my OB having to do go back in and take care of the clots after the placenta had already been delivered.

Yes, it was horrible - it still hadnt detached after more than an hour despite still contracting the whole time, so they were pressing on my stomach and pulling at it and it was so painful!

I remember being told to push it out. I think baby was already on my chest. I didn't see anything, and now I wonder if DH saw?! Lol

With both of them, yes.
DS- the cord separated from the placenta and it would not come out even with the injection so I went to theatre for a manual removal. Which sucked to get a spinal after a med free labour.
DD- I Hemorrhage before I delivered and after delivery so yeah. That sucked!

I had a c-section for twin B so they removed both placentas then. However, it was stuck! They had fused together (common with twins) and my dr had a rough time getting it out. I felt the pressure from that way more than pulling out my little under 5 lb baby!

Yeah! Mine just slithered out with a little push. Felt like a huge bowl of warm jello. So gross! I reeeeally wanted to see it and kept asking DH to take a picture of it before they discarded it but we were both too caught up in the moment and I never ended up seeing it!

Nope. I was really worried about delivering it (more than actual labor?! I was crazy lol) but after all was said and done I had to ask them "when do I deliver the placenta and do I need stitches?" To which the nurse told me it was already out and I was all stitched up! So happy I didn't feel a thing

I have absolutely no idea how/when I delivered my placenta. D wasn't breathing when he was born, so I was too worried about what was happening with him to be paying any attention. Not to mention, I was so exhausted after pushing for 3 hours, I didn't know what the hell was going on. I could barely concentrate on being worried about D.
ETA: I'm hoping things go more smoothly and I get to see it this time around. I just think placentas are the coolest thing - one little organ grows a human! I mean, come on!

Yes but it came out in pieces with some pieces having to be forced out. It took forever for them to get it out and they had to push on my uterus for quite a while. So I'm sure I mainly remember it because the delivery of my placenta didn't go well at all.

With DS I don't remember clearly, but with DD it felt a lot like another baby, just minus the hard parts like skull and shoulders. I remember it felt so.good. to finally have everything OUT!

Nope. A while after DS was born j said oh do I have to push the placenta out?! And the OB said "it's out!" I'm assuming it just fell out since I tore so bad, lol.

Yes both times!
With dd it felt like I had pooped, but it was my placenta 
With ds I didn't feel anything

With DD1 it was uncomfortable because of all the pushing they were doing on my belly but no big deal (epidural). With DD2 I had a med free birth and I remember not feeling good/comfortable until it came out. Literally the second my placenta was removed I felt like a million bucks. It was crazy.

The OB told me when she was delivering my placenta, but I never saw it. She just said it was tiny, tiny. I also didn't feel it coming out. Probably because I was occupied keeping my eyes on DS while he was getting cleaned up and what not.

I def remember, I had to keep pushing and they kept pushing on my stomach! I think I felt something come out..

Nope. I didn't push it out either. It was hours later that I realized that I didn't feel it come out or push it.

I had a C section, I didn't see anything but I remember the doctor saying "Big placenta for a big baby." So I guess it was a big one?

I pushed it out minutes after Lorelei was born. It was definitely easier than pushing out the baby. I didn't really get a good look at it, but I saw the doctor put it into a bowl. I didn't really care to see it anyway.

Kind of? I had a forceps delivery after pushing for three hours. Right before LO came out I think I had two nurses pushing on my stomach. I think after he was out I gave a small push but was so exhausted they had to keep pushing on my stomach. It was such a whirlwind of activity and me vomiting that I can't remember everything!
