Has anyone had their placenta encapsulated? Did you feel like it was worth it? And would you ever encapsulate your own? I have always planned on eating my placenta (pill form, no stir fry here!) and am watching videos on youtube and now I think I want to encapsulate my own when the time comes.
I have a neighbor that had hers encapsulated for like $300 bucks for her 3rd baby. She said she had 0 post partum depression and 0 hair loss!

I haven't really looked into this much, I always just assumed it was too weird....I should research more.

My boss did this and she said it helped. Though it was her first child so I'm not sure how she would know if it would have been different. It's definitely interesting, but I just have to wonder how much of it is the placebo effect.

I'm not into it. Good for people who do it, but there are a lot of things involved that I don't want to get involved with-- having a stranger in your house dehydrating it, SO having to leave the hospital to bring it to the person who is dehydrating it, and just generally, it's sort of gross and weird to me.
BUT, I totally don't judge anyone who wants to. I think there are other ways of doing it, but my sister had looked into it and found the issues I stated above.
ETA: Oh, and DH is pretty easy going with most things, but I think I'd have a really, really hard time convincing him that this was normal.

I wouldn't want to do it myself but I would totally pay someone to do it. Can't hurt right? Most mammals consume their placenta don't they?

i would like to have mine encapsulated if possible. i have no desire to chew it, taste it, or be part of making it into pills, but if it went away and then came back in magic pill form and i could not think about it, then i'd be totally down to take them.

I know someone in my area that does the encapsulation, and also a friend that had hers done.

I don't want to go to the trouble of getting it done, but if it works, that's awesome. The lack of postpartum hair loss is enticing.

I told my midwife that the only thing that I'm bringing home that comes out of me is the baby.
But I wouldn't judge someone else for doing it. Its just not for me.

I literally had no idea this was an option! At first I was a little grossed out, but after researching encapsulation and the possible benefits to consuming the placenta, I may consider it!

I just asked my DH his thoughts, quote "I would probably throw the pills away and accept whatever wrath from you that it caused"
Haha! Which is ok by me cause it would freak me out to take those pills, even if I can understand the logic behind it.

I did it and I had the worst reaction. I was so anxious, unable to sleep? and experiencing PPD symptoms and after I stopped taking them after a few days I felt 100x better! I've heard about this happening to a few women. I was bummed because I really wanted to experience all the benefits.

I'm thinking about it this time. I had a lot of issues with low supply and tried everything I could to boost it and I never was able to keep up. If this would help, why not?

@lawt09: There is some evidence that it can actually delay milk coming in, your milk coming in is the result of the withdrawl of hormones produced by the placenta from your body, and when you consume the placenta you are putting those hormones back in.

You know what, I bet the placenta really tasty when it's cooked. I bet it's like liver! I'm still not going to cook it up and eat it though.....! I know where it's been!! Lol.
As for encapsulation, I'm not going to do it this time - perhaps next time. It's just another thing to think about, isn't it!!

Our doula encapsulated my placenta and I had a great postpartum experience. Was it the placebo effect? Maybe, but I felt great and had a good recovery. I plan to do it again.
We used the placenta water(leftover from dehydration) on our garden. Wow! What a fabulous natural fertilizer! You have no idea the blooms on my rose bushes!

I did it. The pills helped while I took them but I had a small placenta or something because I didn't get too many pills. Once they ran out I got PPD and PPA and a few months later lost a lot of hair. But I had a really difficult newborn and months of sleep deprivation so I think I had the odds against me. Would do it again.
