I thought I knew what the federal government did, but it turns out I didn't realize that they did so much! I didn't know that they paid for so many national parks, for example. I thought that stuff all came out of state budgets... I guess the word "national" should've been a clue ha. I'm a government/history buff, so I'm embarrassed for myself!

Same goes for a bunch of other stuff that's been shutting down... overall, it's made me much more appreciative of the federal government! It's like when a friend moves away, and you suddenly get lonely... and then you realize how much you kind of took them for granted but never really realized it. Sorry, federal government!

Anyway metaphors aside... do you think people will appreciate the services provided by the federal government more after the shutdown is over?
