With Christmas coming up, I am toying with the idea of getting a new purse. The same designer of my much loved diaper bag came out with a line of purses like this one in blush. I want something I will love for years since they aren't cheap, but I am concerned this color is just a trend that will die out and I will wish I had gotten something more traditional. Anyway,...

i think fad or not, get what you like. BUT i do think the black is better for year round and the blush works best for spring/summer.

I live LJ! I would probably pass on the pink and opt for something more timeless but I say get what you love! Have you seen the new dark brown they came out with? I’m loving that color!

@crazydoglady: I have a brandy Madeline and a brandy Rosie. I use the Rosie and (gasp) haven’t actually taken the Maddie out of the bag!

So cute! I'd say go for it. The color may eventually be more appropriate for more spring/summer, but even then you can still carry it half the year

i say this as someone who is sporting a blush dagne dover bag right now, but one problem i have with my love for pretty colored bags is that they seem to get dirty soooo much faster and are hard to get clean. if you really want it to last i would lean toward black/navy/brown. but also my last 4+ bags have been light colors so obviously i just go with my preference and not practicality myself

@crazydoglady: I am a truly "classic" girl with carry alls and bags. I have always erred on the safe side of black, gray, and tan purses and diaper bags; however, lately, I have found myself gravitating towards punches of color. My belief is that it doesn't matter if the color will be "in" or "out," rather, is the design timeless? (* Colors cycle and alternate... what is in one year will be out the next but will come back the following season. It is fickle.) Also, is the bag of a quality material that will last my splurge? Most importantly, how much do I LOVE a particular color and design? If there is any question, I can not reason with myself to make the purchase.
P.S. I adore both of the selections you posted ... so, honestly, I'm of no help.

I like color, but the last bag I bought myself is black, which I haven't done in about 15 years.
I do think you will eventually tire of the color and it will look dated...I just pulled a bag out from storage and I thought the shape looked rather current, even though the color (brown) dates it.

The color of blush that is trending out/has already trended out is a warmer color of blush that has more yellow in it--they call it millennial blush. This one that you posted is a more lilac color of blush which I think is not too faddish. But like @nwm: said, it'll get filthy after a couple years, so I wouldn't spend big money on it (whatever that means to you budget-wise). If you want something that will last and last and never trend out, what about a nice warm saddle brown color? I love love that color for handbags.

If you like it now then I vote that you get it. You will still like it in a few years. I dont think it matters if the color is still "in" or not

I LOVE the blush, but would hesitate because sometimes my dark wash jeans bleed color on light color bags so I wouldn't that to happen on anything but the cheapest of handbags. I always opt for darker because it hides wear better.

Do you mean a color like this? I love it, but it's the same exact leather that my diaper bag is and I was hoping to branch out. I mean, I could always look into other designers too... I just really love how my bag has held up from daily use for 2 years and I am hard on things. Plus, its in the 200-300 range which I don't think is too bad for a really nice and well executed bag.

Either way it'll be dated probably, but not yet and anyway my thought on that is who cares, things always come back around. In other words get what you like! I would do it anyway!

@crazydoglady: it’s gorgeous, but I think I’d only get this color in an inexpensive bag at like Target.. they’re just as pretty and don’t need to last forever. I’d get brown or black if I was investing more.

@crazydoglady: hahaha, I remember when I was young and lived in the midwest, pre-internet, all the trends would show up like a full decade late.
Like this lighter orangey-brown color, less chocolatey, but don't know if it's too close to your diaper bag for your taste.
Another idea that is similar to your blush bag but might have more longevity and will go with everythingggg: natural vachetta, like a nude color. did anyone suggest that yet? I have one and rather than get dirty, it has gotten a really nice patina and it still looks great like 4 years later.

@2littlepumpkins: yes totally agree, I think the true lavenders/lilacs will trend out in a few years too. but IMO the bag in the OP is more like a ballet pink which I don't think will date itself, it always comes back like a dog

It is definitely a trend, but I wouldn't let that stop me since I love the color. We actually just painted our basement a dusty rose-inspired hue since I can't get enough of it. If you get tired of it in a few years, you can always sell it.

@crazydoglady: I love this color, and the style looks good too! I don't think the color is so out there that it will look dated in a few years, but the bigger thing to consider is whether it fits into your overall style. Does it go with your outerwear and clothes?

the one time I got a pink bag, it got so dirty so fast. And it was one of my favorite bags, too! But it was fabric so it could not be cleaned - maybe leather holds up better...
