I have had many haircuts similar to these - love them and pretty easy to style. I'm not sure that the two hair cuts pictured are all that different in how they are actually cut - it is more the styling that makes the difference, whether you style for smooth or messy look. Either one would be cute on you!
As for the color, I have been secretly coveting the mermaid pastel hair. I have dark hair so I can't do it but I have had dark purple and dark blue highlights. I loved them but they are quite a bit of upkeep and kind of stainy (neck, clothes). On the plus side they did fade to a cute pink so you could do the purple and then have pink too

@CakeLady: I have done different color peek-a-boos. (Teal, pink, purple) I do love the idea of being easy to style. The way I have it styled in the first picture is how I generally wear it.

If I had blond hair I would totally do some mermaid color - love this trend! So I would do that!

Cut 2. I'm too traditional to do either color choice, but think the blues and purples would be fun.

Second cut, second colour. I do like the first colour (and I can't believe I'm saying this), but it's a little too close to high school pastel goth for me. However, take my comments with a grain of salt because this may just be the old lady in me coming out. I used to do TONS of funky colours with my hair.
