Do you tip at quick service restaurants? I'm talking about places where you order at the counter, fill your own drinks, and usually clean up after yourself when you leave. The staff brings you the food, but that's about it. Places I consider quick service are Chipotle, Five Guys and Smashburger.

I'll say that I'm probably not consistent with this. Sometimes I leave a dollar, but other times I don't leave anything. Not sure what most people do in this situation, but it seems like there is a wide range among people I've talked to.

Usually not, unless our kid is there and makes a mess...then I feel bad that people have to clean that up.

The one anomaly to not tipping at these places is drive-ins, like Sonic. I always tip 10% or so.

I will usually tip at locally owned places when I get take-out, though it's definitely not generally 20%.
I never tip at chain restaurants for take-out or quick service.

I might leave my change in a tip jar when I check out I guess? Generally no though. If I'm throwing out my own food, where would I even leave the tip? I would someone else is just as likely to come at sit at the table and be like, sweet, a dollar!

@regberadaisy: oh ok. Then yeah sometimes I round up the dollar and put that in the jar or on the credit card.

@Foodnerd81: I usually pay with my credit or debit card, and on the receipt they give me to sign, it has the option to leave a tip. I feel bad leaving it blank sometimes.

It just depends- service, ownership, kid messes, etc. When I do it's usually less than a sit down style restaurant.

Most of the time yes, unless they were rude or something. Mainly because I know they are getting paid minimum wage and put up with lots of annoying people all day.

If I do, it's a flat $1. I hate that there is a tip line on the receipt when I go places like a cupcake store, and all they do is put the cupcake in a box, yet I have to feel like a jerk when they watch me put $0 on tip line.

I do a 1$ or 2$ if I have cash on me, I don't typically add tip on CC charges!

No, I don't. I don't really think people should get tips just for doing their job. They make minimum wage, unlike wait staff which generally make far below that because tips are expected.

Personally, I think the whole concept of tipping is stupid so I definitely do not tip in this situation.
I DO tip in regular restaurants, but it's only because it's what's socially acceptable. I do not agree at all with the custom. In Canada servers are paid minimum wage regardless (at least where I live) so I don't know why we feel obligated. In the US, servers are not paid minimum wage because I as the customer am suppose to supplement it? - even more stupid.
I think people should be paid for doing their job. If your job is "harder" then normal, find something else. I deal with cranky customers all the time, but I don't get tipped. When I worked a concession stand I had people throw food at me... I never got tipped. I don't know why being a waitress would be any worse that the customer needs to top off their regular pay check.
I do tip though, I just hate that society makes me feel like I have to. Haha sorry, this topic gets me going.

it depends. sometimes at smashburger, they will clean our tables for us. Then I tip 2 dollars or so. same at local quick service places. But otherwise, usually no.

No, not usually. Maybe if I have change and there is a tip jar. Plus I feel like if I left money on the table, the next guy eating a burrito would be like hmm random money, sweet!
