We got a swing set with a play house in it. They much prefer the swings!

@Bao: WOW! that sounds amazing. I wanted a playhouse very badly as a child, never got one. I think my son would play in it if we had one, but we don't plan on getting him one at this point...what I really want is one for me, you know those converted garden sheds?

When I was young I was desperate for a treehouse. My dad promised to build me one once (it was a bribe but I can't remember for what) but he never did. We had a shed that my parents let us use as a playhouse but then our neighbour and another girl down the street stopped letting me use it because I wasn't in their club (I know! It was in my backyard!). We have a plastic playhouse for our boys but it's in the basement - nothing outside.

@regberadaisy: careful building in a willow, they're really prone to falling and dropping limbs.

We have a big hunk of plastic climbing something or other. The girls call it the castle but it doesn't look anything like a castle.

She has a playhouse on top of her swing set. Wish she had something as cool as I did growing up.

My dad built us a tree house on tall stilts (with a roof) with real stairs as a kid. It was probably about 10 feet square and had Windows cut out also. There was a tall picket fence around it and a sandbox below also. There was a rope on a pulley with a bucket so we could haul things up the side. We played out there all the time!

My dad just spent the last few days building one for DD. The thing is a beast and we'll never be able to get it out of our yard, so I really hope DD uses it...

Off on a bit of a tangent but is there "upkeep" for tree houses or outdoor equipment?

Do you clean it? Hose it down?

We also have one that is part of a swing set. My kids like climbing to the second floor and going down the slide. They don't really play in the house portion that often, but it is a big hit when other kids come over.
