Lately one of DS's favorite past times is yanking my hair while I'm carrying or holding him. He gets a huge kick out of it. I scream because it hurts and that seems to make him laugh even more. I don't know what to do to make this stop. I try not to react (which is hard, because it hurts), say "no, no" and tell him that he hurt mommy, but nothing seems to be working!

E does this, and I handle it a couple of ways. Sometimes when I'm leaning over him, or he's perched on my lap facing me he'll grab a handful of it and pull. I take my hair back and firmly tell him no, we don't pull hair because it hurts. If he does it again I do the same thing but also put him in time out for a minute
I don't think he's doing it to try to hurt me, and if it's clear to me that he just wants to touch/play with my hair (about half the time) I take his hand and "pet" my hair with it, and tell him to use "gentle touches, like we do with the kitty", or, if I'm feeling brave, I get a brush and let him comb my hair.
No solid advice on how to keep it from happening period, though, because we haven't figured that out yet, sorry!

@lovehoneybee: Thanks for your response. I love your idea about letting him pet my hair and talking about gentle touches. We do that all the time around dogs and cats; I never thought about using that kind of language about myself
