I had my anatomy scan today at 18 (almost 19) weeks, and while structurally things look good, the baby is measuring rather small (more so on some measurements than others). This has led the ultrasound department to call it IUGR, refer me to a geneticist, and push me to have an amniocentesis ASAP.

I've also been scheduled for a follow up growth scan in three weeks, and have a call in to my doctor to see if she thinks I can wait until after that to decide about amnio (which would be my preference).

I'm really thrown by this recommendation - I wasn't expecting it at all. This is baby #3 for me; both of my other children were born small (around 5.5 lbs) and slightly early...so I'm not entirely surprised that this baby is measuring small. But I expected to be told to rest more, eat more...not be rushed into amnio (which frankly terrifies me). My other kids were born outside the US, so I can't really compare between the pregnancies.

Did anyone else have early IUGR? I'd appreciate it if you're willing to share your experience.
