What do you do with the eggs you dye for Easter?

As a kid, we got them in our Easter baskets which were hidden somewhere in the house to be found on Easter morning. This means the eggs sat out all night and usually most of the next day. We always ate them and never got sick, but now as an adult that seems awfully unsafe.

This Easter I set an alarm for early in the morning and added the eggs to the hidden baskets before my kids got up so that they were only out for 2ish hours.

Is it safe to leave hard boiled eggs out for an extended period of time (the internet is conflicted, lol)? What do you do with your dyed eggs?
