Hello!
Wondering if anyone here uses a home water filter system aside from the ones that comes from the fridge? e.g. ones that filters through the sink faucets.
Our fridge one isn't working and we've never liked it, but currently don't want to replace the whole fridge yet. Looking for temporary solutions to drinking water. Anything recommendations/suggestions greatly appreciated!

We simultaneoisly use a faucet and pitcher filter.

Temporary solution I would use a brita pitcher in the fridge.
We have a whole house system because we have well water, but have never had one in previous homes with city water.

@Jennibenni: What's a whole house system? We also have well water. There's some filtration system in place. Aside from that I filter it twice more for peace of mind.

We use a Berkey. It is a stand alone and water is so yummy.

@MrsDynamiteGal: that might’ve been the wrong choice of words but what we have is a filtering system outside, near the well, that all water goes through before it enters the house. We have sulphur and a lot of minerals in our water and this thing strips all of that out. I don’t know more technical terms than that but the water company comes once a month and refills it with salt.

We have a reverse osmosis system connected to our sink and it’s grwat. We got it at Home Depot, and had someone install it. We just replace the filters every 6 months I think

@Jennibenni: @MrsDynamiteGal: that sounds like a water softener- we have one, too. I think it’s different than a water filtration but I’m not sure. We have very hard water so we installed a system like that and add salt monthly

except we just moved and are new to this. Will need to speak with DH about it more.
@Lazb Is the Osmosis system specifically for well water? We're currently using the one from our previous home (city water) and not sure how effective it's been. Particles have gotten through 🤢
@Silva We do have a spot for adding the softener salt. Now I'm definitely wondering if we have an outside filter.

I've been wanting to justify getting a Berkey. My brother and sister both have them.

@Snowybreeze: I agree that a temp solution would be a pitcher. We used this for a while. I dont think the ones over the faucet are temporary

Thanks everyone. What do you know.....I do have Brita pitchers stored away somewhere. I forgot those existed. I probably have some leftover filters (unopened) too. Do you think it's okay to use them or do they "expire". Yeah, I really don't know how long this "temporary" solution i'm thinking of is going to last, or what warrants a longer term solution.

@808love: I love my water cold, i can't drink room temperature water, Berkey doesn't do that right? Do we just take the sink water and pour it into the Berkey system?

@Snowybreeze: I just use ice cubes. Ice cubes can be made from Berkey water but I'm too lazy.
