Where I live this just depends on your arrangements. Our nanny brings her own food, but I know other people who let their nannies eat whatever is in the kitchen. It's something you should probably figure out and consider in the compensation package if needed.

We have offered this to our nanny but she always declines. I try to make sure there are drinks, snacks and pb/j in the fridge in case she gets hungry and we occasionally give her money to grab lunch out.

it can go either way. i had one contract where it was included that they expected me to bring my own lunch to work but that i was welcome to leftovers in the fridge (that was a super intense contract, which isn't a bad thing to spell out all your expectations to avoid frustrations on either end). other times we've kept a running grocery list that i was encouraged to add whatever i wanted.

it's nice to provide food, but it is an expense for you, is that something you're okay with? if you don't have a preference either way, you could say something along the lines of, 'do you usually bring meals with you or is there anything you'd like us to have around?' and see where she goes with it.

The way it has been handled with the families I work for is I bring my lunch but I am welcome to snacks/drinks. Certainly if I forget my lunch or something no one has ever minded me grabbing whatever is there but it seems to be easier so they aren't worrying about what I will eat for lunch the next day when they are low on groceries. Usually I just drink water and maybe nibble on whatever I put out for the kids for snack so it isn't like their grocery bill is increasing because their nanny is drinking three sodas a day and four prepackaged snacks.

ETA: The way the first family brought this up was by saying that they eat out a lot and stink at grocery shopping so it was probably best if I just brought lunch but to help myself to any of the snack items. It made it less awkward since it was less about don't eat our food and more about the fact that there might be nothing to eat.

Ours usually brings most of her food, but we let her know that she is welcome to any of our snacks, etc. I am actually happy because sometimes she eats the things that DH and I can't possibly finish ourselves like Super Bowl leftovers. I always ask if she likes anything in particular when I'm about to order groceries or go to the store.
