So when we had baby #2 we bought our eldest a present and gave it to her from the baby. I remember putting a dinosaur toy and some stickers in the present.
Due with #3 in June and want to do the same thing again but am stuck for ideas (and like to plan early) so those of you who have give older siblings a present, what did you get them? I need some inspiration

We got B a wooden train set - basically something we knew he'd like and that would predispose him to like his brother.

C had a new baby doll waiting for her in the hospital when she came to meet her little sister. The nurses were so sweet, they swaddled it up and put it in another bassinet right beside her sister. She loved getting to take home her "own baby".

@Charm54: that's a fantastic idea that I can see getting a lot of mileage out of, since the new babydoll will need to be cared for just like the new baby sibling!

@SweetCaroline: yep!! 18 months later and that doll is still her favourite one. In the early months she would mimic what I did with her new sister, it was sweet.

Basketball net! He had been wanting one so when we came home we said us and the baby had a surprise for him. He was pretty excited.

We did a lego set and a big brother book. The main character happened to share the same name, which he loved!

A baby doll in a stroller would be cute and they could push it out of the hospital on their own. Or a toy that would keep them occupied for a long time during the newborn feeding or mom zombie days. We have gotten a ton of mileage from our Magnatiles and figurines from his favorite show.

We are leaning towards a toddler/kids camera like @cole mentioned. He's been asking for one (he loves to take pictures with our phones). I saw somewhere that a company just came out with new instant film cameras. Depending on your budget that could be a lot of fun for older siblings!
We were actually originally thinking the kids' Amazon Fire to help keep him entertained when I need to focus on the baby. The kid version comes with a year of the game subscription already covered and we thought it would help him adjust to sharing my attention with his sister. It's currently on sale through tomorrow, so we are giving it to him for his bday instead.

Following this. I'm due with our second in a couple of months. I'm considering getting DD a baby Margaret stuffed animal (Daniel Tiger's little sister). DD will be three by then and I think she'll like having someone to take care of. She already has a baby Stella doll so I figured a different baby might be nice.

@Charm54: how old was your first when your second was born. A doll or baby sounds cute, but my daughter will only be 21 months so I don't know if that's too little?

@Mrs. Goose: She was 24 months. J is 16 months now and OBSESSED with her dolls, so I don't think 21 months is too young!

Thank you every one! It's definitely given me some starting points of what to get. Definitely thinking of getting lo2 her own baby doll (she will be 22 months when baby arrives), still feeling a bit stuck for my oldest (who will be almost 5) but hopefully some inspiration will strike sooner rather then later
