i guess it's not such a bad thing that i'm at my parents. it's only 1 exit away from my doctor's! usually, i have to drive a good 25 minutes. i have my glucose test at 10, gotta be there by 9. and i'm definitely nervous. i eat a LOT of sweets so i've been cutting them out for the most parts today and yesterday. i hope that helps!

took the test today. it really is like a flat sunkist - it was cold! i had to drink like 8oz in 5 min. i drank it all in less than 1. not bad. will find out tomorrow or so if i passed. eek! i was worried because i had to drink contrast once for a cat-scan and i threw the whole thing up all night!
is it bad that i ate 2 bites of croissant before going in? =( i didn't have anything to eat all morning. tiny bites.

I havent done my GD test yet but I was told not to each for atleast an hour before the test, I dont know if thats the same with everyone else?

I have mine next week. Boo! I could have gotten out of it if I'd just kept my big mouth shut. I knew they didn't do them routinely here in the UK, so I asked my midwife at our last visit when they do it. She told me that they only do it for those at higher risk (namely Indian women and those with a higher BMI). Then she realized that my BMI is high enough that I need it done. (She never thinks I'm as fat as I am!) She had to scramble to get me an appointment.
The letter I got said not to each anything from 10PM the night before. My appointment isn't until like 9AM. I'm not looking forward to it. -
@Mrsbells: yeah, i wasn't supposed to eat anything. but i didn't want to faint with hunger lol. i figured if i ate a big breakfast an hour before, i'd still probably have 2 pieces of croissant left in my belly, so i ate the 2 pieces.

I did mine today too! My doctor orders a 2-hour glucose tolerance test rather than the 1-hour test that gives a ton of false positives. The 2-hour test involves fasting for 8-14 hours beforehand, drinking the sugary drink, and getting stuck with 3 needles over the course of 2 hours. It sucked. I really hope I passed!!

I have mine on Thursday afternoon and I'm freaking out! My doctor gave me the glucose drink at the last appointment, so it's been sitting in my apartment staring and taunting me. He told me I can eat in the morning but don't have sweets or a big pasta meal the night before.

@mrsjazz: so lucky you get to drink it at home. that way, you don't have to wait an hour at the doctor's office, which is what i had to do.

@tequiero21: hope you pass! i failed my first and had to do the 3 hour retest. i think i got poked 3x? lucky for me I liked how the drink tasted!
mine tasted like super sweet hawaiian punch. yum!

@tequiero21: Just found out (already!) that I passed. Yay! But... I also learned that I'm mildly anemic and will need to take iron supplements for the rest of my pregnancy

Hope it went well!!! I hated the test. I was sick for a day (which I thought meant I had diabetes, but my test came out negative) I wonder if it will be the same for this pregnancy

i'm also waiting to see if i need to take an iron supplement. ugh, another pill.

And while my iron levels have been fine so far, my OB told me yesterday that they'll probably automatically put me on an iron supplement around 20 weeks. I think just to help with increasing blood volume? -
@HabesBabe: it's an hour long! you take the drink. then an hour later, they take your blood. to see how your body breaks it down? and sees your sugar levels or something. if you fail, then you have to take a 3 hour test! which was what i was fearing.
