We're going on vacation in about a week and since we're flying, I'm trying to take the least amount of stuff possible. I usually pump every night before I go to bed, But my Medela PIS is rather large, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a manual pump.
Do you use a manual pump? Which kind do you use?

I have the Medela and I'm not too happy with it- the suction is weak. Reviews are pretty good for the Lansinoh manual pump so I will probably buy it soon!

@autumnlove: I wanted to get the Medela one so I don't have to worry about getting yet another bottle, but I saw some bad reviews about the suction on it. I was hoping that wasn't as common as it looked. The Lansinoh one looks promising, but then my friend told me she liked her Advent one... too many choices! haha

I used both the Medela and lansinoh. The suction is better on the lansinoh. The only thing better about the medela is that it takes different sizes of breast shields. Also, you can use medela bottles with the lansinoh.

I have the Lansinoh manual and really like it. The manual says it can be used with any standard sized screw top bottle, but I haven't tried it with anything other than the Lansinoh bottles. I saw something online that said medela and ameda bottles are compatible with Lansinoh pumps.

@autumnlove: So did I. I was fine with the Lansinoh as long as my nipples weren't sore or anything, but would switch to the Medela if there was any kind of trauma going on!

I have the medela and I love it! It is the only pump I have and i am able to pump 5 ounces in 10 minutes. It is working great for me!!!

I have an Evenflo Simply go- it sucks... and not in the way pumps are supposed to. Something catches in it occasionally, so I can't trust it to work when I need it. I'm looking for a new one to keep in the car for emergencies, since I am soooo over milking myself when the boy decides to go on nursing strike.

I have the Medela, and haven't had any problems with it. Then again, I have nothing to compare it to.

@Mrs. Yoyo: If you don't mind me asking, what size shields do you use with the medela? I have to use smalls and I'm wondering if I should stick to the medela hand pump for that reason alone. Or do you think I'd be ok with either one, regardless of the shield size?

@BabyBoecksMom: I use the larger ones. But I think you would probably be fine with the Lansinoh ... I think it's the women who need the larger shields that would potentially have issues.

@lemondrop: I just got the lansinoh one and I got 4 oz in 10 min. Not quite what @Mrsdaredevil got but not bad for someone with a low supply!

I have the Medela and think it works great. I was going to get an electric, but since I'm SAH and its working out so well for me I've decided to save myself the $.

@tequiero21: I think that is just one up from the standard size( you'd probably be fine. I've used both 30 and 36 (not sure which is better fit) and I only had issues with the Lansinoh i already had soreness.
