I loooove Nordstrom, Costco and REI for their awesome customer service and return policies (coincidence that they are all Seattle companies??) and hate shopping at BRU for their awful return policy.
I also hate that you get a PAPER voucher at Gap if you return a gift. What is this 1994?!? They said its different from a gift card so you can't use it online either.
Who else has extra awesome or extra bad customer service or return policies?

I'll start with bad: Sports Authority...someone working there helped size me for running shoes and told me if they were too big, bring them back. They were and I did, they wouldn't return them! They were only worn inside my house. I had the receipt, it had been two days and I was TOLD I could return them.
Target, bad. Local baby boutiques, bad. Nordstrom, good. Costco, amazing. 10 years ago my grandpa returned his lap top because it stopped working after he spilt water on it...they gave him his money back! Crazy.

Walmart! Although I hate the store you can return anything to them. The other day I returned done gripe water to Walmart that I bought from BRU-no questions asked!

@matador84: Unless you don't have a receipt. BBB gave me a paper coupon/receipt when I returned a gift. I wasn't thrilled with that.

Nordstrom and Costco are great! I never have too much of a problem with Target. I did a mass return at BRU today and it was fairly simple. I think I lost a total of less than $5 on everything I returned.
Kohl's - ugh! I can't stand that store! Went to return something today, stood in one line to inquire about the value, stood in another line to do the return, and then found out I'd lose more than 1/2 the value! argh!

Walmart will take pretty much anything back but if you try and return more than x amount within a certain time frame, they refuse it! (Without receipts)
Forever 21 is bad! I guess that's why they have to say when you check out "are you aware of our return policy?"
@maisymay that is too bad! I have returned there w/o receipt and get store credit! @princessbaby has a good BBB story about her stroller !

Love Nordstrom and Sephora. I buy all my makeup from Sephora because of their awesome return policy. I've returned used makeup (something I decided I didn't like) without a box or reciept and they took it back and gave me store credit for the retail price. Never thought that would happen!
Hate Target's return policy. Forever 21's is a pain, but at least you know what you're getting into when you purchase from there.

J Crew because you can return on-line or catalog purchases at the store.
Loews returns without receipts, but if you sign up for the rewards cards your receipt is stored there anyway.
Books a Million-only two weeks to return.

My husband and I asked about the paper receipts when we returned some stuff to bed bath and beyond and buy buy baby. They give them to you that way and ask for your license so they can never be lost. If you give them you license, they can tell you how many outstanding credits you have. Both have great return policies!
As well I like costco, nordstroms and Bloomingdales.
Century 21 is ridiculous.

TJ Maxx is awesome. Even without the tags or receipt, they will find something comparable and give you that amount on a gift card. I took two dresses from my closet back that had tags a few weeks ago and I bought them in 2008 and 2009!

Joanna Fabrics is awful, with a receipt you've only got 90 days, after that, with a receipt they won't accept it, not even give a store credit...BUT, if you don't have a receipt, they'll return it.....

Marshalls is terrible. Received a bundle me for Christmas and the price tag is cut off but you can see the top half of the word Marshall's, I was also told it was bought there - but yet won't return it because they don't know how much it was without a receipt or sticker. Unless they had some in stock. Which they don't. I called every marshalls in the state!

Lowes is the best - no receipt needed - love that they can look up my purchases with my credit card. Hate Target - such a pain.

Nordstrom is the best! Haven't had a problem with Target, and I love that they can look stuff up on your credit card. Dillard's is horrible, even with a receipt...I have had to argue with a manager to get something refunded back to my credit card, even though I had a receipt showing I paid by credit card!

I love Nordstrom and Sephora. I don't mind spending a little more knowing if I don't like something even after using/wearing it I can get a full refund without any hassle.
I just placed two orders at Asos and it looks like they have a good return policy (free shipping and returns) which is great since I can't go to the store and try anything on.

Sephora is amazing. I never know what cosmetics are going to work with my skin until I've used them for awhile. Sephora will take back anything. If you have a receipt, they'll give you your money back. If you don't, they give you store credit (which, be warned, you can't use online). I returned some lipstick that I'd forgotten about and found in a drawer. It had been probably 4 or 5 months. They gave me full credit on a card. So great.
I've also heard LUSH is the same way. I've never had a need to return anything there, though, so I can't say for sure.
