I JUST saw my doctor. 5 minutes after I left, they called me to schedule a growth ultrasound, which my doctor didn't even mention during the appointment. I'm freaking out now that maybe she felt something was off with baby's growth. The office person who called said the doctor wrote that it was only due to my advanced maternal age. Anyone else have this? It's in 2 weeks and I'm afraid I'll be a worried basket case until them!!

No experience, but I think all is ok, if they are waiting , to me if it was serious they would have done it sooner!!!!! Prayers!

i did not have a growth ultrasound (was 35/36 during pregnancy) but hopefully like the person said, they are scheduling it only because of AMA. can you leave a message for your doctor?

I didn't have one last time and one isn't expected this time but I wouldn't worry. Every practice does things differently. I am sure they would have said something if they were worried and you will get to see your little baby again which is wonderful!!!!

I have them, but not due to AMA. I have a history of LGA babies so my growth is monitored during the third trimester. If it were worrisome they'd bring you in a lot sooner.

I have growth ultrasounds because I have SGA (small for gestational age) babies. Although i have been pretty confident all along that he is fine and just small like his parents and brother, I have to go for growth scans every 2 weeks and have biophysical profile ultrasounds on the other weeks....all starting at 28 weeks and I'm now almost 37 weeks. I think your doc would have raised a specific concern with you but certainly would call your doc to ask why it's being done.

She said it's just my age. No signs of anything being wrong. I just wish I could have the ultrasound sooner. I hate waiting for things like this. I love seeing her on ultrasound but also loved the idea of the next time seeing her being in person.

@CatchAFallingStar: how old are you? I asked if I'd have any scans after 20 weeks because I will be 36/37 during this pregnancy and she said they don't do that until age 40. It is true though that every practice is different.

@CatchAFallingStar: What's your age and where are you in your pregnancy?
I was monitored with growth scans for the last trimester (every other week progressing to every week) due to AMA and GD. From an AMA perspective the concern was placenta health and fluid levels.

Where are you in your pregnancy? My doctor likes to have a scan in the third trimester but insurance needs a reason to cover it so she usually finds some minor excuse to order one.

@CatchAFallingStar: Sorry you have to wait. I agree with PP that if the doctor had any indication something was wrong they would send you for the test right away. I had a growth ultrasound for non AMA reasons but my doctor made me go straight from my appointment to the ultrasound. Everything turned out fine.

@CatchAFallingStar: sorry you have to wait for the ultrasound. But I'm sure the doc would have said something if s/he thought something was amiss. My practice does a growth ultrasound independent from age at 35/36 weeks. So I really wouldn't worry too much.

@CatchAFallingStar: Sounds pretty routine to me. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to stress. You are almost through your pregnancy.

My friend who just had her baby in July at 35 years old had the growth scan in her last trimester. Pretty standard but not all doctors do it. No worries!

I have to have a growth scan every month starting later this month. I'm currently 13 weeks. I'm 41 and the OB said it's standard practice due to my age. Ugh, they weren't required by my OB for my last pregnancy when I was 38/39 but the MFM where I had my anatomy scan recommended it. I went to one and they thought my cervix was shortening and put me on bed rest for a week. There were crazy issues with getting the actual scan results to my OB and when she saw the results she thought there was nothing wrong so I was't taken off bed rest, but told to work from home for another week but that I could work at a table versus lying down. The extra week home was mainly due to my commute and the fact that the bathrooms on my work floor were under renovation and I would have had to walk to another floor. I hope no crazy scares this time.

I'm 36 (turning 37 next week) and have GD....I will have a growth scan every week starting at 34 weeks. So, i wouldn't worry too much about having one at 35 weeks. I'm sure they just want to make sure everything looks fine.
