Ok, bees, help! After my second child I'm realizing my hair has quite a bit of wave to it. I usually air dry and do a ponytail or a bun. On the weekends I air dry and straighten. I like my hair, but I am a low maintenance girl. Is there a product I could be using that would let me wet scrunch my hair or something to encourage wave and discourage frizz? Something under $30, maybe?

I'm not sure how well it would work for you, but I use Herbal Essences Totally Curl Scrunching Gel. I comb my hair in the shower with conditioner in and then once I rinse it out, I don't comb/brush it again. I put the gel in my hair wet, scrunch it, and let it air dry.

My hair is very fine, but also has some wave to it. I usually spray in product, brush through with a tangle teezer, dry my bangs, and let the rest air dry. My standby products are aquage sea salt texturizing spray, Kenra daily provision leave in conditioner, and it's a 10 miracle leave in product. I like to alternate between all 3. The it's a 10 makes my hair the silkiest and least tangly. The Kenra smooths the most flyaways. And the aquage gives it the most wave. All are affordable and available on Amazon.

I like John Frieda Beach Waves sea salt spray ($10) and Organix sprayable coconut water hydration oil ($6). I have crazy Irish curly hair that frizzes at the slightest mention of humidity and it keeps me looking presentable and my hair smells awesome. I also like that I can get everything at Target instead of making a separate run to a stylist for product. Can't wait to see what other people use!

I have a bit more wave than you do, but my favourite is Moriccan curl cream. The full size is about $35 but you can get a 2 oz travel size for about $10 to try. It does a great job of smoothing out frizz and gently enhancing the wave without making your hair stiff or crunchy.

@caterw: do you use the Organix oil when your hair is wet or dry? I also have curly, easy to frizz hair and I'm looking for something new.

This is me to a "T" I love low maintenance and easy to use. I have always had wavy hair. It frustrating to either find a product that enhances and works with that, or take the time to straighten. Which is why its usually in a pony. LOL
But I have discovered this stuff and LOVE IT. Best stuff ever. Its not stiff, enhances my waves, and its cheap. Also kicker is there are NOT a lot of chemicals in it and its a fairly clean product. -
@lamariniere: I use it when my hair is wet. I squeeze the dripping water out in a towel, then comb it, then spray.
ETA Please ignore side bangs I am trying to grow out that will not stay back with a bobby pin.

I recently got a Devacurl cut and was recommended the Deva foam and then I also use Shea Moisture curl and style milk to help with frizz. Those 2 products with the use of the Devacurl Delight shampoo/conditioner (made for wavy, not curly, hair) have seriously changed my life/hair! It IS expensive, though, and I'm burning through it quickly. I may try the Shea Moisture foam to cut costs a little bit.

My hair has the same waves going on post-pregnancy. I love it! I use bumble and bumble surf shampoo and conditioner on days when I want to go wavy (it's pretty pricey, so I don't use every day). I have wavy (now thanks to pregnancy, super curly) hair, about the same as yours when it's long. I used to use Aveda curl creme, with a little bit of gel mixed in for hold. Deva curl is also great! Now, I use R&B cream from Lush and then a light gel or spray on top, but some days I just leave it at the cream. You might have to try a bunch of products to get the right stuff for your hair texture. Lush is really great, though expensive, as they can usually help you find a shampoo/conditioner combo that will make products less necessary. If you have Ulta, try them too, they're usually really helpful and they have a ton of different brands at various price points. The biggest thing, when you have wave or curl, is NEVER use a brush. The brush will actually break the curl and cause frizz. Instead, comb through with your fingers, or if that's not enough, use a very wide toothed comb. Once I figured this out, my wave looked so much nicer and I was able to wash and wear with a lot less product!

I had stick-straight hair before both of my pregnancies and now have wavy/curly hair. If I do nothing to it, it's frizzy and kinky on the top layer, and curly underneath. If I just scrunch some gel into it, it dries pretty curly. I found a website called naturally curly or something and read a lot (because I had zero idea how to manage my new hair), and tried a bunch of the products.
When I do wear my hair curly, this is what I do: wide tooth comb with conditioner in the shower-- NO more combing or brushing after that! After my shower, I do not towel dry. I leave it wet enough that when I scrunch in some leave in conditioner, it makes a squishing noise. Then, I scrunch in a product by Shea Moisture called Gel Cream ( I've only ever found it at Ulta, even though Target carries a lot of the line). Then I plop it with a tee shirt for about 10 minutes (Google plopping for curly hair). Then, because my hair literally will take 8-10 hours to fully dry, I'll half diffuse it (or fully diffuse if I'm headed out). Once it's completely dry, I scrunch it to remove any gel cast and I'm left with decently bouncy waves/ curls. I like the Shea Moisture gel cream because it's not heavy and holds well. Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft curls is also pretty good, and so is Kinky Curly custard gel (find it at Target, it comes in a pot). Have fun!

I use herbal essence curly mousse on wet hair...scrunch upside down .....hair dryer with a diffuser upside down for less than 5 minutes to get it a little dry (so my shirt doesn't get wet mainly!)
My hair dresser suggested drying with paper towels instead of a regular towel post shower....but that was too high maintenance for me!

@littlebug: do you think the use of the devacurl shampoo/conditioner really helps? I have (and liked) the devacurl products and I always wondered if using their shampoo would really make a difference or not....but too cheap apparently to test!

@yoursilverlining: I do think it helped a lot. At this point I'm not sure if it's the products or the actual instruction on how to handle my curls that's really done it, but it's working for me so I'll stick with it. Maybe once I really get the hang of the right proportion of product to use when, I'll branch out and try something else to cut costs.

@MrsSRS: I have a good bit more curl, but I use herbal essence scrunch gel and then a handful of John Frieda Frizzease curl mousse. It's the best of all the mousse I've tried and doesn't make my curls stiff to the touch. I scrunch with head upside down and let.air dry on a slow day or dry with a diffuser if heading to work.
