For those of you who have had LO's cursed with Hand Foot Mouth in the past, how long did the rash keep spreading and new blisters form? We're on day 3 and it's still slowly spreading. He had nothing on his face until just a few hours ago. I was hoping it would be on its way out since some of the blisters have popped and are drying up, but now I'm wondering if it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I don't remember exactly, but I think day 3 was one of the worst days. Hoping he gets better soon!

@skipper2010: I hope that's the case. I'd hate for it to spread even more than it already it. He is literally covered in it. His feet are disgusting.

It's the worst! Every time a new spot popped up I was like "seriously?!"

She had a very very mild version. I took her to the doc on Thursday after a high fever Tues and Wed night. She only had like 3 spots on her hand. Maybe 4 on Friday and no fever. Sat and Sun no new spots. She was back at day care on Monday.

Fortunately we had a mild case, I almost didn't even realize it was HFM except that it was accompanied with such an awful fever he wasn't sleeping AT ALL - and then I saw the blisters and knew. But the fever was the worst part of it for us.

He had a pretty bad case and I'd say there was probably 4 days of blisters forming. I think day 5 or 6 is when I finally felt like we were on the upswing. (Though days 1-3 seemed to be when he felt the sickest, so hopefully you're past that now!) And then they took forever to go away. HFM is seriously the worst - hang in there mama

We had a mild case as well...woke up with a fever on Sunday, and I think the blisters had stopped appearing by Wednesday, and he was fine by Friday, just some peeling.

@Smurfette: @Mrs. Pen: Those were pretty mild cases. We were lucky in that his fever was very low and only on Friday night. The spots appeared by Saturday evening and by Sunday it was nasty from the belly down.
@HLK208: Ha, seriously. It's never-ending in this house. Why is my kid always sick?!
@SeptMomma12 @hilsy85: Thanks! I feel like he's looking better this morning...a lot of he blisters seemed to have gone down overnight. By this evening we should know if it's finally going away.

@Mrs. Pen: I didn't even see the blisters. The pedi pointed them out. She had more in her throat then on her hands, but I never saw any on her feet.
@BananaPancakes: poor guy! Once new blisters stop appearing they aren't contagious anymore. Sounds like you are almost to the end.

@BananaPancakes: My daughter had it twice last year (and I had it once!). I think she stopped sprouting new spots by day 4. The face ones were the last to show up and the first to leave. The ones on her feet lasted forever!

When DS had it they started in his throat and he only had a couple on his mouth - we thought maybe it wasn't HFM and just a virus with low-grade fever. On day 4 he woke up with them all over his face, hands, feet, thighs, and bottom. It was so miserable! Our daycare told us it was the worst outbreak they'd seen in a long time - half his class was out for the whole week! He stopped getting new sores after a week but they took a while to clear up, especially the ones in his diaper area.

@My Only Sunshine: That sound like his case right now. The ones that popped up on his face last night are already gone this morning. Hopefully we're clearing up!
@MoreCoffee: I'm so nervous his classmates are going to get it! I feel so guilty when it's my kid that causes the outbreak, and not only did they have school Friday, but then they all came over to our house Saturday morning for his birthday party. I had no idea it was hand foot mouth until Saturday evening because there was no rash. Most of the moms were cool when I texted them Sunday, but one of them hasn't answered me and I'm afraid she's ticked.

We had two mild cases and three bad ones including me. The mild cases one had one or two blisters that formed and a fever for one day with a sore throat that lasted maybe 2 days. The kids bad cases were probably 4-5 days of spreading rashes with fevers and sore throats, then another week of recovery. I had the most severe case and mine kept spreading and getting worse for over a week. It was at it's worse at around day 4 or 5 and then those blisters started hardening but I still got new small ones for a few more days. It took our family a month to get over it. It was horrible.

Yeah, I had it way worse than DS did. The first day with the fever was the worse, then after that he got blisters on days 2 & 3 and then they started going away. I kept getting new blisters for 3-4 days until mine started to dry up and peel. My hands and feet peeled for a couple months and every single one of my nails fell off. It was insane!!

@petunia354: oh my gosh I thought I was the only one!! My hands peeled in huge thick sheets and I lost my nails too. My husband was so grossed out because my whole thumb peeled in one big thumb shaped sheet.
Our anniversary was right in the middle of the whole debacle. He looked at me and said well since you kind of look like a decaying corpse maybe we can rent World War Z for our anniversary date night. He got the I'm going to kill you look for that one but I couldn't really argue. He was right. Nothing says happy anniversary like a zombie apocalypse movie and a disgusting virus.

@BananaPancakes: luckily my husband didn't get it too because he would have been worse than the kids to take care off.
