Our meeting with the county went really well and it left us feeling hopeful and with a lot to think about. We are working our way through the paperwork and our foster/adopt classes start this week. Yay! Just a sweet coincidence, our meeting was held in the same room we were married in on the day before our 5th anniversary. Not sure I believe in this but it might appear as if the universe is speaking to us. :0)

That is so sweet! So the classes you are starting, are they MAPP training? If so, it means you are one step closer! Exciting

They are referred to as PRIDE classes. I wonder if they are similar to MAPP training. They don't actually provide much information on the classes but I know they cover topics like loss and trauma.

@Costello: Yeah, it's the same. Different states have different names for it, but the content is similar. After you complete them, you move on to your homestudy, right?!

@Mrs. Jacks: Because of the way the classes our scheduled, we can complete most of the homestudy as we are attending the classes. We are finishing up the background checks and documents in September and will have the social worker come to our home in early October. We are very excited to be working through this part of the process! At our meeting, we were asked to consider some children currently in need. I will admit to almost falling off my chair when he mentioned a sibling set of four between the ages of 1 and 6.

@Costello: Oh wow! This to me was one of the most exciting parts of the process. Home study was nerve-wracking to be sure, but it was so much fun to take the time and be introspective about our relationship and our family. You've read my home study blog post?
You are going to have children in your home before you know it. And yeah, I might had a heart attack if my first placement was a sib set of four! Mrs. Tutu had a similar experience if I recall.

@Mrs. Jacks: I have read your homestudy blog post but I should revisit it. This process is a unique opportunity and I have enjoyed taking a closer look at who we are as individuals and a family. I am trying very hard to take in every step and not rush through it.
I enjoy reading all of the blog posts from the adoptive mamas and really miss Mrs. Tutu. I hope she is doing well with her babies. And, thank you for the encouragement! :0)

I'm pregnant now (due in January) and then DH should be transferred next July and we'll probably (hopefully) be moving to either Florida or Maryland and we're going to start looking into fostering wherever we end up. Reading other people's experiences is interesting.
