Help!!! We are on vacation and our 4 year old DS is having accidents (both poop and pee). He pooped in his pants 2x today, he peed his pants yesterday, pooped 2 days before that, etc.
We are considering taking him to urgent Care in the morning but we're wondering if anyone has had this problem in their 4 year old while traveling. His poop is unformed which makes me think it might be diarrhea. Now that I think about it, he has had poop accidents for over a week. It is just so frustrating, I'm just throwing the underwear away, because I don't have anywhere to wash them andim considering putting him back in pull ups. He has been potty trained for over a year.

Not exactly the same, but when we moved cities my oldest boy was just shy of 4 and he had a lot of accidents. I feel like he was so overwhelmed with everything he just didn't pay attention to his body. Maybe that's your little guys issue?

Just like @MamaBehr: not exactly the same but we also see a lot more accidents when he gets tired and is overwhelmed. (He's only 3 though).
At 4 I would talk to your son how he'd feel about wearing a pull up - he might be relieved or feel slighted. In the latter case I wouldn't put him in pull ups.
If he shows other signs of sickness (like a fever, no appetite etc) I would definitely take him to UC.

Are you traveling somewhere exotic? If so, maybe his tummy is upset by the food? I ask because we just came back from an exotic place a few weeks ago and my 5yo son had a poop accident (for the first time in years!) and it was more diarrhea-like, probably from the food. I think it just overcame him too quickly to make it to the bathroom. Maybe giving some probiotics could help in the interim before you are able to see a doctor?

@JMOM: It's very common for kids to be constipated while traveling, as they're not walking around as much. But usually that doesn't cause diarrhea! Unless your DS is showing signs of functional constipation/encopresis? A list of the symptoms is towards the end of this post!

I'd definitely grab some pull ups. If nothing else it will help with your stress level, and 4 is old enough to understand that you are buying pull ups because of accidents with no laundry available and that they aren't to be treated intentionally like diapers. Is your LO verbal and self aware enough to help you figure out what's going on? Some four year olds I know are, as long as they're not tired. Maybe also put a timer on your phone and go potty regularly? My guess would be a combo of fatigue/uncertainty from traveling and one of those obnoxious little tummy bugs that are so common. Thanks everyone, I took him to urgent care and they said he was mildly constipated and to give him glycerin suppositories and more fiber/water. He didn't have an UTI so that was good.
