I bought a beautiful dress for my daughter for the holidays on Jane... see below... but I'm struggling to find something for my son. So many typical outfits are sweaters, but I'm afraid he will be hot at a party. He is 2.5 but typically in 18 month clothing.

@erinbaderin: That is really cute. I think that is what I'm struggling with... not feeling like boy outfits are dressed up in comparison to girls.

I would add some suspenders (red or gold?) and a bow tie to dress up a shirt like @erinbaderin: posted. I love little boys in suspenders!

If I was going to a christmas party in a cute little cocktail dress, I would expect DH to dress in khakis and a button down. So I would put together something similar for my son.
I thinking adding a vest could dress it up a bit more too without being too hot.

My boys hate button down shirts, but I force them to wear them for formal/dressy events anyway. My 4 year old runs hot but loves his truck sweater so he opts for that often instead. (It is so cute but I can't find it anywhere anymore)

How about khaki pants, like a polo shirt with a collar and then have a light sweater (insert festive color) over it with the collar part sticking out. Made my son wear that to church last week and he looked super cute
