I have 8 staff members that report to me at my job. I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas for Holiday gifts for them. I have to pay for anything out of pocket, so I really don't want it to be gift cards (especially since I really don't know where people like to go). I've had about 40% turnover in my dept this year, they get paid so little and I don't really have bonding relationships with any of them, but I do want to know I appreciate their efforts on our team. Any ideas??

Following! I used to get each member of my team a business book (we're in that field) that I thought they would each enjoy personally. But now my team has grown and I know people don't want books every year!

Someone mentioned this is the stocking stuffers post, but scratchers are a good idea for staff, I think.

Can you treat them all to a breakfast tray (muffins, bagels, donuts , etc) or a lunch tray (sandwiches, chips, salad, etc)?

Agree with the food idea, either take them all out for lunch or order lunch in!

@Pancakes: What's a scratcher? Like a back scratcher? Or lottery? I don't do lottery stuff at all, never have, I'm not sure that'd even be ok in my industry (financial).
Maybe I'll do something like a mug or something full of goodies and bagels for breakfast. Thanks for the ideas!

When I had direct reports, I usually made a box of treats for each one with a note about how much I appreciated their work. I also sometimes brought in breakfast tacos for everyone.

I was always told to avoid things like lottery tickets as workplace gifts because you don't know what the employees position is on gambling.
When I had a team reporting to me I got them the following (not all at once):
- Scarf
- Chocolates
- Coffee
- B&BW "gift sets" for their office/desk (hand sanitizer, lotion, etc.)
- Lip balm
- Christmas ornaments
- Something personalized. One year I got them Christmas ornaments with their name on, another year I got them desk stuff (pens & pads)
I think that's it..ETA: One year I gave out those mason jars with ingredients and we used the work kitchen to make cookies as a team.

I've never had to give gifts, but my parents do and I used to wrap all their gifts and they've done:
Ornaments (my dad knew they all celebrated Christmas)
Mugs with coffee or tea
Picture frame
Desk organizers from red envelope with their (the employee) name on them
Candles
Food things: chocolates, cookies, etc.I was also trying to think of things I've gotten and my favorites are travel mugs, teas, warm fuzzy socks (they come in super handy!!!) and a Christmas frame (that is on my table as I type!)

My DH has 3 workers under him, I've made baked goods for all of them to share with their family, and he's going to pay for a pizza lunch on a day they are all there as a thank you. He's the "boss" but doesn't make all that much more than they do, so I think the gesture will be appreciated.

Dh has a whole team that works under him- For the last few years I have been making huge bathes of cookies! Since Lo is due right before then- we are going to have t come up with a new idea this year!!

As an employee I'd prefer a breakfast or lunch over a gift.

Food, the answer is always food. Especially if you can extend a break or lunch for 10 minutes
