Our last name starts with a P. The two names we love unfortunately also start with a P. If we chose either name our child's initials would be PP. not sure if middle name yet but I could very well start with an A creating the initials PAP. Is this horrible? Should we pick different names? Are kids going to tease her and call her "pee pee"?

Also if your kid gets a monogram it will be like pPa. But even PAP will look fine.

PP as first and last initials doesn't make me think of peepee, but I admit PAP does make me think of a PAP smear
I really don't think this is bad enough to make you reconsider your P first names at all. If the initials were PLP or PSP or something, would you still think of schoolyard pee jokes?

Do kids even know what a Pap smear is?! I think it's fine.

Kids could find anything to tease if they want to, but I really think it's not a big deal.

The only initials I wouldn't do is something like ASS or other 3 letter slurs or profanities.
My sister was EAT and she never heard a word about it. -
I wouldn't worry about PP or PAP. I will say in grad school, our school assigned emails based on initials - e.g., ABC1234@school.edu - and there was someone with the initials VAG that definitely raised a few eyebrows. I think like @SweetiePie: said, I'd just stay away from really bad ones like that!

@Meowkers: I think kids may laugh about it when they notice but she probably wouldn't be teased about it in a recurring way.
@SweetiePie: I just gave my kiddo the initials ITS and have heard no end of grief from other adults about how could I give him those initials....really!? So it makes me really glad to hear your sister never had any issues.
ETA: after this response I realize that kids probably won't comment - but you will likely hear about it from plenty of adults when you announce the name...

We decided on a name and then my DH pointed out her monogram was PMS. Oh well!

@Meowkers: I really wanted to give our son my grandfather's name for his middle name, but his initials would have been FRT and I couldn't do it. But I think PP will be just fine!

I just discovered my kids initials are the symbol of a popular vacation destination in the northeast. Score...I don't have to buy anymore monogrammed stuff for her

We were careful about initials but it still spells out a word that is a decent, scientific prefix. There is only so much you can do. You might pick really safe initials and then it will someday become the next omg, lol or wtf. But probably wouldn't do the PP.

We had a tough time choosing middle names for our kids because of this type of thing .. they are BS & BM if you don't include the last names but in the end I thought it really doesn't matter. I think it's fine and you should go with the name that you want
