We have been home shopping slowly. We would be happy in our house for several more years but the stress/expense of dealing with a 100 year old house is getting stressful.

We have just a few requirements:

It's within a reasonable walking distance of downtown.
It has a great room- dining, kitchen and living space without walls.
DH would prefer a private feeling/treed lot (hard to find in walking distance from downtown).

Well I found an amazing house that fits our criteria, big lot tons of trees, 3 car garage. It's only 2 miles away in the next town over. Is .7 miles from restaurants, the post office, walking distance to a top rated elementary school, it's in our price range.

But, it's a monster, 2x as much living space as our current house. I called the gas and electric companies and combined the average cost is only $125 more a month than ours. Eventually MIL may live with us in the future- but no idea when. I'm worried it will be hard to resell- which I think is part of the reason there was just a reduction in this hot market. Thoughts?
