We just had our tenant move out of our back garage room so I was able to finally move all my office stuff out of our master and into that room which freed up so much space and now our room is half empty! At some point we might want to add a bathroom in there but DH thinks we'll feel cramped, which is probably true but our house is 1150 sq ft so unless we add sq footage, we're gonna have a smaller master if we want a bathroom in there!

We have one of those oversized, suburban masters complete with an attached sitting room. It's the room I am going to tackle first in terms of making it look nice and hopefully visually shrink the space. The room is too big.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: ditto. Our master bedroom is larger than my first studio apartment; it's insane. We are going to try to make better use of the space (which my husband uses as an office now), because it's pretty wasteful. I wish we could cut 1/3 of the space and move it somewhere else in the house.

About 15x18.. 270ish sq ft. I could do with a little less space since we don't have much in it, but I like it. Spacious without feeling huge with too much wasted space.

Small. It's a house we just bought and I think it's about 130 sq feet. However, the previous owners took one corner and made it into a half bath. It's 130 sq feet not including the bathroom. I wish it were bigger so we could fit a king size bed, but oh well.

If I had to guess, I would put it at less than 150 square feet, which feels small to me by modern standards, but it fits all of our furniture without a problem (and our furniture isn't small scale).

It's huge. I think around 350sq ft. We easily fit all of our furniture plus a small crib in there and have space to move around. I like it.

110 sq. ft. and I wish it was a tiny bit bigger or had a second closet. I hate sharing a closet with my husband and he leaves his clothes everywhere, so it feels smaller. We don't have a ton of furniture either, just the bed frame, two nightstands, and a dog bed.

Too big! I'd love to eventually turn 1/3 of it into a small master bath, but that is a dream renovation! Ha!

not sure on size but pretty large - we have an office area with 2 work stations and my sewing stuff on one side and then a full bath, and bedroom on the other side and a walk in closet - I love it!!!

Ha, never thought of it that way. Our master is also bigger than my first studio apt. There's definitely some dead space though. It doesn't need to be that big!

No clue on the sq footage but it is small. But I like it, DH doesn't have much space to pile up clothes and crap. Anything bigger would be a waste for us.

Ours is huge for the size of our apartment, I think it's close to 400sqft, which makes it roughly 1/4 of our apartment. We have a king bed, 2 night stands, dresser, freestanding wardrobe (no closets), my office nook and master bath. I could definitely go smaller, but our apartment is over 100 years old and I guess they liked huge rooms back then.

I believe ours is 14x12, so about 168 sq ft. LO1's room isn't much smaller. We didn't want a huge master though, so we love the size. It fits everything without being too cramped and has a small bathroom attached. Our last rental had a master bigger than the living room and we definitely wanted more living room space than bedroom space.

It's over 700 sq ft but some of that is the bathroom and there's a room with a door and closet inside our bedroom that I use as a dressing room- will become a nursery. There's also a massive closet and a sitting area with a fireplace. Honestly it's not neccessary and it doesn't match the rest of the house but I like having the space. I would definitely prefer to have bigger living space downstairs, but it's just not how the house is set up. Our house is nice but not crazy, just has a nice master bedroom addition. I do feel like we get good use from the space and I'll enjoy having a little nursery in there when our next baby is born.

Too small. However our current furniture is too bulky (I'm talking 8-10 extra inches of width and height for the two dressers and 4-6" extra on the two side table)s. And we also have two tall ikea bookshelves (no other room for them and the master is sorta a kid-free zone, or at least no unsupervised time in there). So I guess if I had less crap in there, and my ideal furniture, the size wouldn't be bad. Cosy, but nice.

Enormous master suites are such a popular home design trend, Probably not likely to go away any time soon since they are eye-catching for buyers. But once you live there, it's such a waste.
We live in a townhouse so our master is pretty small, but I think it's almost perfect. I wish it were possible to fit a king bed in there, so I would appreciate a little more room for that. Not any bigger though.

Ours is 12x14 and it's tight.
I did a master suite in one house that was over 2,000sf. Talk about excessive. -

12 x 15 (180) it's just about right.. Maybe 13 x 15 would be nice because the one wall doesn't feel quite spacish enough to add a furniture piece and have plenty of walking room. Otherwise, walking room without extra space to have to come up with decorating ideas just to fill it.
ETA: I'm not counting the master bath/closet that are off of bedroom, but they are nothing write home about

I have no idea what size our room is; it fits our king bed, two dressers as side tables, and we have a walk in closet. but no master bath in room. I mean, what else do I really need in there?!

Like, gigantic. I have no clue how big, but unnecessarily giant. My husband's closet is probably 100 sqft and there's another one for me. It also has a covered porch off of it which I love, but don't use enough because my darn kids are so needy and don't give me much time for reading/drinking wine on the porch. I would trade some of the space to make my kids rooms a bit bigger. We have a really big house, but the kids rooms are not to scale to the rest of the house which is kind of a bummer.

I don't know the size. It's an odd configuration though.
It looked big when we were house shopping, but it was staged with a queen sized bed and no dressers in it.
Once we put a king sized bed in, it pretty small. And there's a sliding glass door that takes up half a wall. Then add two dressers, a walk in closet, and a master bath (that's honestly pretty tiny) and it's a weird L shape with a giant bed taking up most of it.
When it was designed and most people slept in double beds, I bet it was considered really spacious.

I think the rest of the master uses space better than the bedroom itself. Our bathroom isn't too large; now if I wore make up daily and did my own hair I maybe would want more space like a built in vanity. We have room to grow into our shared WIC. Instead of making the WIC massive there's a bonus room that is used to hide DH's ugly couches. He works from home in that room.

Our house was built in the 50s and has no true master. All the bedrooms are about the same size, around 225 sq ft. The one we use as the "master" just has the biggest closet. The three main-floor bedrooms share one bath, and there's one bedroom and a 3/4 bath in the walk-out basement. At some point, we could renovate the lower level to create a master suite, but I wouldn't be comfortable sleeping on a different floor than DD at this point. For the most part, I think the bedrooms are a good size, but we don't have a dresser or bureau in our room (just utilize closet space) and if we did, it might feel a bit cramped.

Not big. Like 12x14 I think? We fit our queen bed and side tables just fine and will be adding a wardrobe and crib shortly. It should fit pretty nicely without feeling too cramped.

I think mine is around 200sq-250sq ft. I can't remember exactly. But it fits a king, two side tables, a wide dresser (but not too wide front to back) and a tall, narrow dresser. Plus I have room to squeeze a crib in there even though that is making things real tight. I think it's fine. I don't think I'd complain if it was a little bit bigger, but I wouldn't want too much more

@avivoca: there were his and her closets that were each bigger than my living room, a yoga room off of her bathroom, the enormous bath tub had its own room with a Juliet balcony. The bedroom alone could fit eight king size beds. They had it set up with two conversation sofas across from the fireplace, a bench at the end of their custom size bed.

@oliviaoblivia: That's mindboggling! I guess I knew that the homes were big, but I didn't know a master suite could be 2000 sqft there! I thought the homes were in the 5000-7000 sqft range. I guess there are always a few extra large ones.

Our bedroom, bathroom and two walk in closets are about 640 square feet. The bedroom is good sized and fits everything we need. The closets are nice sized, I love that we have two separate walk-ins. The only complaint I have is the bathroom. We have a nice two person shower and double sinks, but not enough room for a tub too.

@sunny: we joke in the office that if you forgot your phone upstairs it would take half an hour to get it.
A lot of the toilets are because there is a ballroom. So if there are 250+ people in your ballroom you need facilities to support that. -
Our bedroom itself is 300 square feet, but then the master bath and closet come close to doubling it. It feels big but not excessively. We have a small armoire, a small desk, a dresser and a king size bed with night stands.
