We have a pretty big property (since we're used to city spaces). It's .8 acres. I have no ice how big the backyard is because we also have a decent sized front yard. We have a deck that spans the whole back of our house and then plenty of room for a swing set and to run around. It takes DH about 15 min to mow it in a riding mower. Are you moving to Nj?!

Zero. We're in the city. We play in our parking lot and between the condo buildings. There's a couple of parks nearby. When we move to the suburbs, we'll look at a place with a decent yard.

Our lot is 25'x125' and it's plenty. We have a large city park a block away.

@Modern Daisy: It was a strange change for us! DH came from TX where there's plenty of land and its so cheap, but in his subdivision they stack the houses so close that no one has a yard anyways! I grew up in the city where my parents only had about an 1/10th acre. Our neighbors lot was about the same and we shared the yard in between us to kick a ball or play wiffle ball or baseball (with a tennis ball).

We have 0.25 acres, which is actually a lot for our area. The front yard is small (which is fine by me), and the backyard would be considered a good size. The shape is a little odd (very long and narrow), but it would be enough for an in ground pool, plus a full size badminton/volleyboard type net and room to play. That's the best way I can think to spacially describe it.

I have no idea how big it is but it's big enough! When we looked for a house, we def didn't want something SO big to maintain since DH mows the lawn and tends to all the stuff himself, but we wanted a good wide open space for our dogs/kids to run around in also.

@Modern Daisy: some things to consider because that's a lot of land!
1. Is the street out front busy? Could they play out front?
2. Can you put up a fence out back?
3. What do you back up to - is it another house or woods?

I may consider that much land with a big front yard if I would feel safe with the kids playing out front.

ETA: we have 1/4 acre and it is more than enough space to play in the backyard.

We have almost 3/4 of an acre on a nice flat level lot and I think it's a huge yard!! Most of it is grass, so lots to mow.

@cascademom: same! no yard but we have a playground, park and splashpad across the street and a bike path behind our parking lot.

@Modern Daisy: we paid for ours after we moved in but since you are considering putting an offer down I would ask the seller to provide it!

We have .33, but 2/3 of our yard is covered by English Ivy. Once it's removed, though, we'll have plenty of room!

Wow everyone has such large properties and yards! Your situation sounds similar, we love our house, location, school district but back yard is on the small side. We have like a 1000 sq feet enclosed back yard that contains a deck and a small yard, large enough for our kids to run around a little or put a swing set in, and our dog to stretch her legs, but definitely no baseball. A few weeks ago, we camped out in our backyard, and that turned out really well. So we would’ve liked a slightly bigger yard, but it’s good enough for our needs, and DH doesn’t have to mow as much.
