Elementary school in the city I walked. Jr. High in the city I took the school bus (it was far). High school in the suburbs my parents dropped me off (too far to walk) then I drove senior year.
The kids may very likely end up taking the bus/subway for middle school and high school by themselves. They walk for elementary though.

I live in a relatively small city (where I grew up). In elementary school, I lived about a mile away from school. When I was highly motivated, I walked or biked, but otherwise took the bus or occasionally my mom dropped us off.
In middle school, my mom dropped us off, and by high school, we were driving (I started as a sophomore, but my brother was already driving).
We're hoping to move to a different school district before school starts. If we're still here, LO will walk, if we move, it will be walk or drop-off. My job is really flexible, so I'll probably drop off just for that driving time with my LO.

Before I moved in 3rd grade, I walked with my brother (probably a 5 min walk?). In my new town I lived 3+ miles away from school... so I took the bus, but the closest bus stop was more than half a mile away too, so there was a bit of walking as well. If I missed the bus or had an after school activity and couldn't find a ride home, I had to either wait at school until 6 or walk all the way home. It was one of the most traumatizing things about my childhood!

I rode a bus from kindergarten to 11th grade and then drove myself half of 11th grade into 12th. Just about everyone used busses when I grew up, but apparently in my husband's town very few people utilized the busses because it apparently had the stigma that the parents were too poor to take time off work to drop off & pick up kids (funny because this was a poor town anyway!) so he was always dropped off & picked up by his mom even though she was broke.. to avoid being made fun of or talked down to even more than they already were for being the only Asian family in town. Crazy!

Grew up in the suburbs, where my parents dropped me off. For two years in middle school, I rode the school bus home (because I felt it was the "cool" thing do to. ha!).

My mom always took us to school & picked us up. (We lived about a 15 minute drive from the school &she was a SAHM) she stopped picking us up a year before I started driving & it sucked. I seriously hated the bus & made no effort to be friends with any of the other riders lol

My elementary, middle, and high school were next to each other in a row. I lived in the same neighborhood, it was a ~15 minute walk. In high school I would sometimes catch a ride from a friend who lived in the same neighborhood, and sometimes I took the city bus since there was a stop at the end of my street. I never took the school bus!! My parents would only take me in rare circumstances--if I had a project or something that would be hard to carry, or if the weather was extreme (snow wasn't extreme, but crazy blizzard conditions were).

i lived in the suburbs. for elementary i was driven until i could walk. in middle and high school i walked.

Until 2nd grade, I was picked up and dropped off by school bus. I went to a private school so it was literally door to door.
Starting 2nd grade, I walked to the bus stop (a block away) and took a school bus to and from school and walked home from the bus stop.
JHS I took a city bus and walked to school. In high school I took a city bus and transferred 3 times on the subway to get to school!

I grew up in a small city. In elementary school I walked (we lived next door!). Middle school I walked; sometimes my parents dropped me off in the morning but I always walked home. High school I either bummed a ride (from parents or friends), walked (about 20 mins), or took a city bus

Elementary: Early years - daycare drop off; Later years - walked.
Middle School - Bussed it.
Highschool - Caught a ride with my mom downtown and then took a train.

Elementary: My mom was a sub, but she still needed to be at school a bit before we did. For the first couple years, my mom dropped us off at the school's latchkey program and we hung out and played there before and after school until she could pick us up. Once she got hired as a teacher and had to arrive even earlier and stay later, she hired a babysitter who walked us to and from school. Last couple years we walked our selves.
Middle school - Walked
High school - Walked. Once I had my license I started driving, which is ridiculous because we literally lived across the street, but I'd pick up my friends who lives further away because there were no buses.

LO will be walking and taking public transportation. We plan on staying in our current neighborhood and the school she will probably be rezoned for is right down the block.

I took the school bus when I was really young. When my mom started teaching at my school we all rode together. Middle school I walked from MS to the Elementary school (to meet my mom) and High School I rode with my older brother who drove us until I was 16 and drove myself.

Elementary (suburbs): Walked
Middle school (suburbs): Bus
High school (city): subway! I walked 3/4 of a mile to a subway stop in queens and then took 2 subways to get my school. It took about an hour but this very normal for Brooklyn and Queens commutes. I sort of can't believe it looking back now. Senior year I took my mom's car (as she commuted into Manhattan from Queens) and drove which was much easier.

Elementary school- bus. 1st year of Jr. high- bus, then parents dropped me off. The rest of school I was dropped off by my parents, or drove myself when I turned 16. I HATED riding the bus!

I'm hoping they will walk in elementary - right now my husband walks him to preschool. In middle and high school we will probably drive there and if I'm still teaching at the same school, in middle school they can walk to my school in the afternoon and we can drive home together. In high school, they will hopefully go to the school where I teach. We are considering moving to a different town, though, so then they would go to school out there.

I grew up in a medium-sized city. I walked in grade school and in high school I got rides from my friends' older siblings and then drove myself when I got my license.

Elementary- walked! School was in our neighborhood
Middle- dropped off by mom. There was a bus service, but for some reason I never took it?
High- school bus!
If we still live here when LO starts school, I will walk her to school (neighborhood school), probably drop her off via car to middle school, and then she will walk to high school (right next to the elementary school!)
