I don't think there is ever a perfect time to ttc. How did you decide it was the right time for you and your spouse?
DH and I had a pre TTC checklist. He had several things on it and I had 1. The biggest thing we wanted was some time together as a married couple before having a baby. Then the universe told us we needed more time together then we planned.

We got unexpectedly KU and had a miscarriage. After we'd spent a couple months preparing for a surprise pregnancy, I think the loss convinced us that there was no "right time". There would always be things we'd "like" to do first, but that we could make it work.

We got married May of 2013 and always just said we would go off BC starting Jan 2014. It was supposed to be NTNP for a while but then I already got so into the TTC world lol!

Ha, well, we didn't TTC. C was a big surprise six weeks into marriage! I wouldn't change it but I do wonder when we would have decided was a good time to start our family of he hadn't been our surprise.

We'd been married about a year, were in a good spot financially, I'd been at work long enough to qualify for FMLA and had applied for STD. We were still really nervous, but figured it was as good a time as any!

We knew we would be faced with IF so we just decided to jump right into NTNP to see what would happen. After a while of nothing happening, we decided to go into TTC. I think for us because we had no idea how long it would take, we just went for it.

We actually got started earlier than planned. We went on a trip for our one year anniversary and both started getting baby fever, I went off BC the next month and we started actively TTC a cpl months later.

We both had TTC checklists, but basically had them all checked off by the time we were married (graduate college, establish career, buy home, financially stable, etc.). I really wanted to wait until after I was 30 to start TTC as well, and we both wanted at least a year of marriage under our belt. I don't know that I felt like it was the "right" time, but it turned out to be!

DH knew I wanted to wait at least a year after we got married, and I also knew that I would have issues because I didn't have a regular period. We wanted two kids, and DH was also afraid of what the research says about age effects, so it was pretty much math that made the decision for us. Very unromantic, but that's how it happened for us.

We didn't plan for the first two. We are trying to find the perfect time to ttc 3 and it is hard!

We waited until it made sense with my grad school timing--I was done with my coursework and qualifying exams, and had finished a big chunk of my dissertation research that had to be done abroad. Plus, baby fever was driving me crazy

We'd talked about having kids generally but neither one of us really felt a strong desire for a kid. Then about 2.5 years into marriage we started talking about it more and more and after about a month of just kind of day dreaming about it, it just felt right.
On top of that, logistically we were in a good place for a child. We were financially stable, owed a house, were comfortable in our careers. There was really nothing stopping us.

I got married when I was nearly 30, so we didn't want to wait too long. We both have stable jobs, etc, so one day we just decided to go for it.

It wasn't. My husband had been laid off and was still looking for work when I got pregnant. Initially we were waiting until he found a new job and settled in. It all worked out. He had a job that got us through while I was pregnant. He was miserable so he quit while I was on maternity leave to help me and spend time really looking. He found a great job and started around the time I went back to work. I wouldn't change a thing. It all worked out for the best! This is why emergency savings are super important though!!!

We waited until DH got a promotion (that we knew approximately when it would come) that made his salary high enough that we would be comfortable with me leaving my job when a baby arrived to be a SAHM. Once he got the promotion, we started TTC that month.

Well, I believe there is no such thing as the "right" time. It's got to be the 50% okay time otherwise, I am way too conservative.
I am a pessimist though, not for TTC timelines, but I believe that unless I am sitting on a multimillion trust fund, there is no such thing as financial stability in this country. Anything can happen and you can lose it all.

@looch: Absolutely, 100% agree. Sometimes I have friends that really want (along with their partner) a baby but they feel like just one more vacation should happen first or that they could be a little more set financially. Eh, I don't think one can ever honestly feel 100% financially ready - the average person could almost always use at least a bit more money. At some point you just have to do it if you feel ready and also have your most basic ducks in a row.

We were planning on waiting a year to enjoy the time as a married couple but I mentioned at my annual that we would be starting to try in the next 6 months. They then informed me that due my cycle lengths i might not be ovulating and i could have a hard time getting pregnant. This made us both super sad and have major baby fever, we pushed it up by 5 months...and BANG pregnant on first try Wouldn't change it though!

I was worried about my age and PCOS and DH was wishing he had done more fun stuff but we both wanted more than one so we reached an agreement of when would be a good time. Interestingly, as soon as we had one, he was on my back about having another pretty much straight away.

I had a baby bucket list but honestly we wanted to be in a good place financially (house and steady jobs). Really we just started TTC when the timing felt right. I don't know how to explain it but we felt ready to have a baby. I knew it when I started getting jealous when other people were announcing their pregnancies.

It just "felt" right. Married for a year and we were financially stable so no real reason to wait. Oh and plus I'm in my 30's. Tick tock!

We were married a little over two years and time was ticking. We also thought it best to have kids before I assumed more responsibility at work.
