Tested again this morning with FRER and a dip strip— definitely

@Lahela017: Boo, I’m sorry! The first time DH and I tried we made an embryo every month we tried, so having 2 bfns now is new territory for me. Hopefully that means when I do get a bfp it will be sticky, which wasn’t the case with my first three bps. Fingers crossed for month 3 for both of us. A June baby would be so nice, we’d get to be home all summer.

And, I’m back… Ive been spotting some, but my period is now officially late, so I used a dip strip mid morning today and got a very faint positive… And then retested with FRER just now and got a faint but clear pink line. With my history of multiple losses/ectopic pregnancies I’m not optimistic that it will be healthy since by this point with my healthy pregnancy I had a strong positive, but I guess we have to hope. 🤞🤞🤞 I’ll test again tomorrow with FMU, but we’ll see.

Question for you ladies… the likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy is getting higher by the day. This will be my third. I was tested after the second and both my tubes *look* like they should work fine. I’m leaning towards trying IVF instead of rolling the dice with my eggs/tubes again since I’m on pregnancy #5 and only one baby so far. My insurance will cover IVF for tubal issues, but only if one or both my tubes are missing or blocked. Sometime this week I’m probably going to have to make a decision about medical or surgical management for the current pregnancy.

The medical treatment is a beast, always triggers a migraine that I’m not allowed to take anything for and requires me to wait at least 3 months before trying again. If it works in one dose I’ll feel awful for a day or two and then be fine, but it might take more and each subsequent dose gets worse. The surgery is laparoscopic with a 2-3 day recovery time before I’d be back to work, but will definitely resolve the issue in one shot and doesn’t have a need to wait to try again, and would mean that insurance would cover IVF in the future. What would you do?

ETA: we could probably afford IVF without insurance, but the insurance coverage would save us 5 figures.

@periwinklebee: Thanks for your message. The issue isn't that it needs to be coded as ectopic it's that recurrent ectopic alone doesn't put me into the "subfertile" bucket for insurance coverage. I would need to have a diagnosis of a blocked tube, have had one or both tubes removed or not been able to conceive for 12 months. In my case, I make embryos basically every time I try and my tubes look fine on the one test they're able to run, so surgery is my only option to get the coverage even though it's clear at this point that there is something wrong with me and my risk of further ectopic pregnancies is extremely high.

I can still wait and see if I'm a candidate for surgery further down the line, but I also don't want to push a dangerous situation unnecessarily, especially since my hormone levels are rising at a rate that doesn't rule out a healthy pregnancy (even though everything else including an ultrasound does). I also feel like the rules for who is a candidate for surgery have changed since my last ectopic pregnancy, which is frustrating because I expected to say surgery to the doctor yesterday and have her be like "ok, this is where we need to be to do that" and instead I got a hard no.
