We use the big tub and let them sit. However, I've also let them sit in the kitchen sink

We use the Mommy's helper blow up tub in the big tub. We just use a very thick bathmat or a folded towel as a knee rest. You can also buy a cheap gardening foam knee rest too.

Try using the sink by itself!

I just use the big tub. I sit next to her on the floor and I gently get her to sit when she stands up.

Once mine could sit she was out of the little tub that we were putting into the big tub anyway. So around 5/6 months she was in the big tub and I would just get her to sit down instead of stand and she didn't/doesn't stand too often at 19 months. I got bath books and read to her and distracted her with toys. The sink would have been fun and easy for a while though I'm sure! Just say no to standing!

We used to use a little tub in front of our gas fireplace when she was little and I called it her baby spa.

I have a blooming flower bath tub that I've used in the kitchen sink. At some point I stopped using it with LO#1 and she just sat in the sink. I'm still using it with my almost one year old. My first bathed in the sink until she was over two! She hated the tub and I hated bending over the tub!

We really stressed not letting our sons stand. I mean they still did it but we would continually make them sit down and give them fun toys like stacking cups to distract them into sitting. The blow up tub makes me feel safer if they do stand because it has inflated bumpers as opposed to slipping and banging their head on the big tub. If you don't like bending over, you can sit on the edge of the tub itself or get a cheap low IKEA stool.

I got a no slip mat and let my kid stand in the big tub. She still stands about half the time at 20 months.

I just let my kids stand when they wanted....and we don't even have a non-slip mat or anything. Or a faucet cover. I guess we are risk takers.

But seriously, with our oldest, we kept her in the baby tub inside our big tub until she was almost 2 and little sister was born. She would just sit up in it. After LO2 was born, I put our oldest in the big tub and put the baby in the baby tub (still inside the big tub) so I could do bathtime together. As soon as LO2 was 6 months, I stopped using the baby tub and both girls were in the big tub. My mom always taught me that the water should only go up to the belly button of the youngest kid, so that even if they lay down/fall down backward, the water won't cover their face. We still follow that rule, so I feel fine with them standing, playing, whatever. We haven't had any major accidents, so it's all worked out. And both girls love bathtime and have no problems with us pouring water over their heads.

At that stage (crawling), we put the baby tub in our shower, and he bathed as we showered. Then from about 12 months on, once he could walk, he showers with us too.

I imagine we'll have to stop about age 2 because of memories? I usually wear underwear in the shower with him, and now a sports bra because I'm trying to wean.

With DD1 we went from the 4moms in kitchen sink to inflated duckie tub at 6 months when she could sit up. We didn't even mover her into the regular tub till way past 1, haha!

We will probably follow suit with DD2, but will put her in the big tub with big sis sooner.

I first want to say that I totally misread this. I saw 9.5 old and immediately thought 9.5 YEAR old. My facial expression was literally

Now that I've gotten out of that mindset, we bathe both boys in our soaking tub. I know that it's likely bigger than your bathtub, but I've always stood in the bath with both of them. I am fully clothed and just stand while I bathe them. It's so much easier to hold onto them and I position myself behind them so that as they're playing, if they slip backwards, my legs are there to catch them if I need half a second to grab them. It has always worked really well for me.

@agold: Yes! Sit on the side of the tub with your feet in it. You can use a bath mat to step out once you're finished. Plus...it gives me a mini-soak to help my feet feel good after a long day!

And as for getting her hair washed, we did a trial by fire. We dumped water right over both of our kids' heads from the start. Face and all. It surprises them at first, but both LOVE water now and aren't afraid to get their faces wet. For context, I have a 4.5 year old and a 20 month old. DS2 hates the act of me washing his head with soap, but loooooves me dumping water over his head.

I use a knee pad made for gardening and kneel right down next to the tub. DS used to stand and crawl in the bath too, I would just keep a hand on him and make him sit down. Shallow water is important cause if they do loose their balance they will fall right under. I'll never forget the wading pool when he was just walking last year (15-16 months). He would walk in, fall and go under. When I scooped him up he would just laugh and do it again!

We used this inflatable duck in our bathtub - for me, this is the best product ever made for bath time - works great and lifts up the tub height so there's a lot less bending over!

I used the big tub. If she stood once, I made her sit. The second time, bath was over. She caught on fast.

Washing hair we soap up the boys heads and then use a wet wash cloth to wipe the soap off. It takes a while but not bad and DS1 has long thick hair. Around 2 we could get him to close his eyes and dump water over his head. We use those buckets with the flexible edge to minimize water in the face.
